He has a higher approval rating after one year than the vaunted St. Ronald of Reagan, whom all Republicans seem to think crapped rainbows. Also, his "approval rating" varies greatly depending on the pollster used and their leaning. Left-leaning polls have it higher, right-leaning polls have it lower. I think the truth, like in all things, exists somewhere between the two. That said, I would put it closer to the high end than the low end.

It's Congress that I'm fairly sure people continue to have a great dislike for, myself included.

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on polls at this point. I'm pretty sure the media just uses them as a tool to do what they do best: Spin, spin, spin.

We've gotten to the point that what people know depends on what show they watch.

I voted for Obama and actually went to his Inauguration (which was a blast), but I voted Average in this poll. He's alienated a lot of people in his own party and pretty much f'ed up any chance of retaining control in the mid-term elections. I'm also concerned about the trickle down effect it will have on our local races, especially the Judicial races. I consider myself a moderate democrat and expected some better things from him, actually. Having said that, I cannot stand Bush so anything is better than him, in my opinion.

(No attacks please. As I said, this is only my opinion. B) )

The only people he's "alienated" within the Democratic party are the far, far left. What gets me is the people who claim Obama is "super liberal" or "socialist" or "far, far left".....when he's actually closer to center. These people wouldn't know what real "socialist" or "far, far left" politician was if it bit them in the taint. This country will never have someone that far left or conversely, someone far to right in the White House. It'll never happen. You run on the left, you govern from the center. The same applies to a Republican; you run from the right, you govern from the center. The majority of Americans consider themselves centrist/moderate/Independents and governing from either end will get you nowhere. The problem with the far left in this country is they thought Obama would govern from there, and he can't. Not if he expects a more center-left Congress to pass anything.

I truly feel the more moderate Dems, such as myself, haven't gone anywhere.

I'd give him a C.

Those pirates deserved what they got.

Now back to reality. His failure to effectively govern from the center, (who's votes won him the election) has lead to this bitterness. Liberals and conservatives can bitch bitch bitch all they want about how their view of the world is supreme to the other. But, independents decide elections and they are the future of the revolution.

Democrats have been a joke because while they like to blame everything on Bush, my how we've forgotten they've had control of Congress since late 2006 and have done jack shit except spend hundreds of billions of our money for...so far nothing.

Republicans have been a joke because while they like to pretend none of this is their fault, it's nearly entirely their fault. The fact that they are more concerned about social issues than being fiscally conservative with spending shows their detachment from the core principles of Republicanism. It also doesn't help when their alternative ideas are 600 blank pages with a fancy cover sheet.

Point taken :-) IMHO It is a disgrace what has happened in my life time in the political arena. The death of John F Kennedy (who knows what really happened as those papers are sealed until I am dead..again only what they want us to know), Richard Nixon and illegal wire tapping...and on and on. I will continue to write to the political officials and let them know what a disgrace they are. Selfish, Greedy, Self Serving just to name a few words. If these people do not figure out a way to work together I fear for the generation of my son. At least in the 60's people had the fortitude to try to change things...what the hell happened to people really fighting for what they believe in...oh yea, they think it's in a voting booth which limits your choices and the only effort it takes is to punch a button and that can't even be done correct a lot of times!

I watched Obama's State of the Union, so let's see if he really wants to work with both sides and let's see if the GOP is willing to step up as well. I'll give it one more year!

I agree with you completely. I think I have an answer as to why so many politicians are selfish, greedy and self-serving like you said. In order to be willing to mount a campaign for a major office, expose one's personal life, and convince people they need to vote for you, one must have an extreme amount of self-confidence, and must love the limelight. However, because a person with a personality like that is often arrogant and egotistical, they are often inneffective once they hold office. Enough of this type of person has gotten elected to the point where in my opinion, America is screwed. (Unless some miracle happens that is)

Good runners aren't necessarily good leaders, yes.

To those who subscribe to the notion that Bush was just as fiscally irresponsible when it came to spending as Obama, hopefully the following deficit graph will be of some use:

obamadebt.jpg

Nice graph. I can make shadow puppets on the wall myself.

Too bad that graph doesn't show the billions China gave us to fund the two wars.

The U.S. is fighting a singular global war, once referred to as the Global War on Terrorism but thanks to the pc

Obama administration it is now known as "overseas contingency operations". By all balanced accounts, Iraq is

a victory, and most if not all of the combat personnel will be removed within the next 18 months or so. The war

in Afghanistan is likely to continue for some time, but you recall 9/11, which I'm sure you also blame Bush for.

I'm not a Bush enthusiast, hell I'm not even a Republican. What I am is an objective viewpoint, and just as winning is the point of war, getting results is the point of politics and this President has failed miserably in that regard. Not even a single accomplishment.

Well, i'm not a die hard liberal either. In fact there are many parts of their agenda i completely disagree with. One is gun control. I believe every citizen with no felonious criminal record should be able to purchase and keep any type of firearm, except automatic weapons which are banned anyway. I strongly oppose gay marriage. Sorry if I offend anyone. It's just the way I feel. There are others, but i'm not in the mood to discuss them. If we emptied our pockets and threw everything on the table, we would probably be surprised at how much we do agree on.

A friend sent this to me as some what of a joke, but think about it!!

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

I am sending this to virtually everybody and that includes conservatives, liberals, and everybody in between. Even though we disagree on a number of issues, I count all of you as friends. My friend wants to promote a "Congressional Reform Act of 2009". It would contain eight provisions, all of which would probably be strongly endorsed by those who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights..

I know many of you will say, "this is impossible". Let me remind you, Congress has the lowest approval of any entity in Government, now is the time when Americans will join together to reform Congress - the entity that represents us.

We need to get a Senator to introduce this bill in the US Senate and a Representative to introduce a similar bill in the US House. These people will become American hero's..

***********************************

Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits: 12 years only, one of the possible options below.

A. Two Six year Senate terms

B. Six Two year House terms

C. One Six year Senate term and three Two Year House terms

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

2. No Tenure / No Pension: A congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security: All funds in the Congressional retirement fund moves to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, Congress participates with the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan just as all Americans.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

7. Congress must equally abide in all laws they impose on the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

8. All contracts with past and present congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with congressmen, congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

Think about it: If a majority of American citizens could make their feelings about this heard loud and clear, what would congress do? Lets find out! If you agree with the above, pass it on. Send it to your media contacts too!

The Founding Fathers also thought black people were 3/5 a person. Just because it's what they thought doesn't mean it should be followed today. The Founding Fathers thought a lot of things that are not feasible, appropriate or possible if applied to today's government.

That's like asking someone, "Can I borrow a rolling paper?"

I really have no idea what your point is :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I posted a graph showing how much the government was either in the red or in the black each year of the past decade, and you mention the fact that we get money for two wars from China. What's the relevance? How does that refute the proposition that Obama is a great deal more fiscally reckless than Bush?

(who was bad enough I'll admit)

File under Barack Obama...Chose not to start another thread.

What I find most compelling is that an illegal immigrant is allowed to request this hearing be CLOSED in a Federal Court...so much for a transparent government, eh?

I could be mistaken, but wasn't one of Newt Gingrich's points in his "Contract With America" to impose term limits on Congress? If so why was a bill like the one above not passed after the "Republican Revolution" of 1994?

I disapprove. The health care bill was just a nightmare that really should have been rewritten and maybe even postponed. There were far more important things to worry about, especially considering the fact that the bill is really going to do more harm than good. And you can't spend your way out of debt. It's just common sense!

To be fair, though, I pretty much hate everyone in Washington and only approve of third party candidates. Everyone in our government has the intellectual capacity of a Post-it note and the moral fiber of OJ Simpson.

That is all.

I have nothing but respect for those in the military and their loved ones. It is people such as your son who keep our country safe and allow us the liberties we dearly cherish. Thank you beetleron.

Hi 'beetleron'

You're very right to be proud, tell him to keep safe and well and i pray with all the other parents that have kids in war-zones for a quick and uneventful tour for him.

My son has done 2 tours in Afghan, he loved the US Naffi, Lobster on his first day in the desert, did a week with the Gurkha's as well and they do their very own Goat Curries, he's home safe and well now although some shrapnel did land on his tent, but he refused to bring it home as a souvenir as he had so much other shit to carry, he said he wasn't going to carry that too.

Kind Regards, Danny

PS, Where's "Shitheads Site" by the way?

That's what I want to know!!

As someone who lived in an Arab country for a few years, I hope no one expects them to turn into model participants in democratic government anytime soon. I'm sorry for anyone going over there to serve in the military - brutal climate, bad situation, middle eastern music is good, but it's not rock and roll!
