stacilayne
Hey, guys -- I guess you've heard... and maybe there is already a thread? I couldn't find one -- that Pamela Des Barres book "I'm With the Band" has been optioned for a TV series on HBO with Zooey Deschanel in the lead role. It will be interesting to see who they cast as Jimmy Page! (I am sure they won't be using his real name.) I'm working on a blog about celebrity / music bio pics so of course The Runaways movie, and this news, will be my lead-in. But I am wondering if anyone here can remember who WAS going to play Pamela when her story was going to be a feature length film a number of years back? I keep thinking I remember it was Mary Stewart Masterson, but online searches turn up nothing. Anybody recall? Thanks, Staci
Wolfman
Hi Staci. Can't find any info about who was going to play PDB in the rumored movie. I remember hearing about it a while back. This HBO series sounds fantastic but why the hell are they choosing Zooey Deschanel? She's the worst. Not sexy and a terrible actress. They should have gone with some one more intriguing. BTW,keep up the great work.
LedZepChick
I've read her book several times, and I remember when there was talk about a movie coming out. Ugh, I'm trying to remember, as well. It's like on the tip of my tongue...
Wolfman
Mary-Louise Parker of Weeds fame would a nice choice to play her. Very pretty but not overly gorgeous (just like PDB). Plus, she's an excellent actress.
The Pagemeister
Paul Dano could do it:
longdistancewinner
I'm not too bothered that Zooey Deschanel is playing the lead. I liked her in 'Almost Famous', but that was about it. I can't think of much else that she's been in that's impressed me, but I have a feeling she could pull this one off. On another note, I was watching a live stream of a band last night and the guitarist (who's also an actor) whipped out a violin bow. He'd mentioned briefly in an interview that the band had been listening to a lot of Zeppelin on the road, so I just knew where he got that from. Nice touch, though, since you don't see many performers do that nowadays. Now, it's not just because I'm in serious 'like' with this dude, but I think he could be a pretty good 'Jimmy' kind of guy. Aquamarine
I imagine Deschanel is up for the role because of Almost Famous.

brspled
I think Zooey Deschanel was pretty good in (500) Days of Summer and that she'll be alright as PDB. But that's just my opinion, of course.
kaiser
It's funny because I just watched "500 Days Of Summer" (which I hated, coming from a Smiths fan no less) & I thought her co-star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, bared a striking resemblance to a young Yardbird era Jimmy Page & could possibly play Page up to around the Knebworth era if there was ever a movie about Page. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is probably best known as the long haired alien teenager on "Third Rock From The Sun". He's got that Asian look for a non-Asian much like Jimmy Page. I think she was in that movie "Failure to Launch" with Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McCaunnehy (SP?). The movie wasn't great but she was a hoot. Great call on Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I always thought he could be a pretty good Jimmy if they ever did a bio of the band. He looks very Knebworth-esque here. Aquamarine
Crikey! I was remembering him from 3rd Rock, and he's, erm, improved quite a bit.

What has he done since Third Rock? He was great on that show but somehow I lost track of him. Or I've seen him in stuff and not made the connection

stacilayne
Wow... how could I not have thought of JGL? Especially since I **loved** 500 Days of Summer. Thanks for that. Excellent call. JGL has done a lot since Third Rock. He's a really terrific actor, and a very smart, well-spoken young man. He's really an indie movie "star" but I think he was in G.I. Joe (which I have not seen). Some good dramas he's been in are: THE LOOKOUT (I chose that as one the best 100 movies of the decade in a list I did for one of the mags I write for), BRICK, and THE BROTHERS BLOOM. His upcoming film, UNCERTAINTY, looks fantastic. Zooey is a really uneven actress. I thought she was awful in THE HAPPENING, but perfect in 500 DAYS. She's got a sweet little singing voice, too (she's in a duo called SHE AND HIM), so she could play the GTO's phase. I don't mind the casting. ninelives
Thanks for the clips Staci and the info on JGL. I'll have to look out for 500 Days of Summer. I'm intrigued now.
