Here is the night that made my life complete. The night Plant's shirt caught fire. I could have jumped on the stage, but figured it was better to enjoy the show than get my ass beat and thrown in the local klink.:o

...SM, tks for sharing this treasure..I am sure we responded to each other last year under your incarnation Yukus ?...Glad you did the right thing, loved your story, and that you lived to tell...(I remember telling you that I was relatively new, couldn't go and could have convinced my parents a little harder, something along those lines...and that you couldn't go to the Pink Floyd concert, a ride was refused at last minute?...correct?

Yes I still cant believe we had to tear up those Pink Floyd tickets. If we had an ounce of common sense then we would have at least saved them. It was in Hamilton, Ontario and I heard lots of stories in the years to follow about all the trouble at that show. Maybe it was a blessing i couldnt make it. But I did make it to Led Zeppelin. I still remember the light blue shirt I wore, with a chianti jug on it that was just big enough to stuff a joint into. Which of course I did. That stub of mine is still iin mint condition. Wish I had saved the Pink Floyd one.

1977 cont.

Where did you get these Cap Centre 77 tics? This had to have been a friend's stub as I believe I might have even purchased that ticket!

It didn't post a copy of your pic. It's the one with 2 tix in the frame. (On your page 2 of this thread)

What a night that was huh? /The memorial day show. What I would give to go back in time to that night. Except for the 12 hour bus ride home.

Yes indeed! I still have all my stubs as well!

was at all these shows FRONT ROW!!!

ok....1977 was a very different time than now...music and concerts were so different....I'm 51 now....and have seen more than 1000 shows in my lifetime...I still have most all of my ticket stubs....I really have seen almost everyone...most of 'em 5 to 100 times.with that said....

I waited 2 1/2 weeks in line...I was the very first person in line to buy tickets in the DC/MD area. Infact tickets were scheduled to go on sale at 10:00am Sat morning....and at 4:00am Sat...the police came and escorted the first 10 of us into the cap center and sold us our tickets...tickets were $9.50 with a .50 service charge...so the very first $10.00 concert tickets. We were allowed to buy 10 tics for each of the 3 nights....I bought 10 front row center seats 3 nights in a row.... holy shit!!!!!!!!!!! The police then escorted me and my nine other friends...who bought the whole first 7 rows center out!, out to our cars because they were afraid we would be mugged.......honest absolute true story.......then I simply traded when they added a fourth night for another front row seat...I still have 3 of my four stubs...........THE SHOWS...............first let me say...I was, am probably still am, one of the biggest Zep heads ever....they were everything to me since 1969 when ZepI came out....was never then same again.....waiting in line over night each year to buy the albums as they were released....back to the shows... Upon the first show I didn't want to be wasted or drunk because I wanted to remember everything....they were late coming out...when the house lights went out....you have NEVER heard such a roar from a crowd...this wasn't a Beatles hysterical roar...this was pure blissful love screaming to our favorite muscians on the planet, who were literally 3 feet from my face....front row and I never got down off my chair....we stood on our chairs all 4 hours....singing every lyric.....it was insane...from the first notes of TSRTS....it was a dream come true this 18 year old!!

Things were so different as I said...we didn't know what they were gonna play...there was no internet to look up setlists....in fact there was no MTV and we never even got a glimpse of our heros other than Circus Mag, Rolling Stone, Crawdaddy.....we were totally enamored by their presense...it was so exciting....all 20,000 of us KNEW this was history......

4 nights...yes 4 nights...by the 4th night we were dissappointed in our heros to be honest...they played the same songs each night...and Robert even said pretty much the same thing between songs.....or so it seemed as it was happening....listening to the boots now, we all know there were a couple differences...like Dancin Days..etc.....Jimmy was wasted...I mean wasted...on the 3rd night...after STH he held his double neck above his head and 2 roadies caught it just in time.....he needed to be carried off the stage.....

Another big event was some asshole shouting a bottle rocket on stage which caught Plant's shirt on fire, or at least smoldering.....and he ripped his shirt off, basically cursed the guy out...threatened to shut down and played shirtless for a while.......also you've never seen such a cloud of pot smoke....you could cut it with a knife......

All that said almost 30 years ago.....still the BEST SHOWS I HAVE EVER SEEN....no one has ever come close.....the Who with Kieth Moon was close....but they were NO LED ZEPPELIN....

hope you enjoyed reading...I enjoyed remembering.

Damn I'll never forget it!

After listening to 5/30/77 Capital Center again...........

After Sick Again ...Robert asks all the folks lighting fireworks to cool it. We can have a competition to see who is louder us or those things....so cool it.

Then they play NFBM.....song ends

Plantations

"I've heard of magic. That wasn't magical though. It got my blood pressure rising a bit. I've gotten undressed before small parties in the past, but never before 22,000 people. So I think I'm gonna get dressed again."

This was because some asshole shot a bottle rocket that hit Robert's shirt and actually caught it on fire. Robert handled things with more grace then is imaginable. This show DEFINATELY is ONE OF THE BEST shows of the whole 77 tour. It may be the best No Quarter, and Achiles is spot on...especially compared to the train wreck on Bringing Down the House(the first night here)

What a four night run! I do feel so lucky!

Thanks for the great recollection. i was indeed at the "bottlel rocket show" on memorial day and was scared to death they would walk off. Yet part of me was wondering if it was staged as I did not see it until it hit the stage. But I then could tell it wasnt staged because of Roberts reaction. Im thinking, oh man, if they walk off, Im never going to see them. Thanks to them all for carryiing on. I am glad i missed the show two nights before when Jimmy was lit. So I got to see one of the best. I remember those blue laser lights during Kashmir. I loved the acoustic section too. It was during Bonzo's drum solo I decided to get ambitous. But quickly found out it was not worth wondering around much. Where did they dig up those gorilla's gaurding each runway? Did you see the size of some of them? ha. I was 20 then. I am 53 now. You had the advantage of living near the venue. I had no clue where I was. I slept outdoors behind a church that was walking distance from the Cap Centre. I will never forget going in and asking the guy to please rip my ticket carefullly as I wanted it for a souvenir. And Ill never forget the lights going out and seeimg them walk out in single file. Man. It was just an incredible feeling to finally see your idols in front of you. We kind of thought they would open with Rock n Roll. Was a bit surprised that they opened with TSRTS. But I was so happy I got to see them do alot of Grafitti. Of course we knew they would do some Presence. What a night. I will never forget it. And if I had to pick a second favorite of all time it would be the Who indoors in Buffalo at the old Aud in the 70s. The Stones really pissed me off when they walked off early the second time I saw them in Buffalo. Also saw the Who outdoors in Toronto and snuck in a huge cooller of Gin and Tonic. It was hotter than the devil and we made lots of friends. I was giving out drinks. ha. Get your Gin and tonic here. I was already gone. Others I loved were the Eagles indoors, Aerosmith three times indoors in small venue in late 70s or early 80s, tough to remember the dates except for zepp. Tull was great. I was disappointed in Yes in the Round. Not a big fan. But I loved Emerson, Lake and palmer. Thanks for the memories Ocean. We were there!! And lived to tell!!!!

Ok i pulled out all my ticket stub books to see where and how "I" felt Gomez ranked. First let me say I,ve seen HUNDREDS of shows....The Grateful Dead for example I've seen more Than 100 times ......so with that said, I put together my favorite 15 shows of my lifetime!!!!!

1. Led Zeppelin May 26 1977 Capital Centre MD FRONT ROW. My first of four front row shows in a row by the mighty Zep.

2. The Who Aug 6, 1976 Capital Centre 2nd row...with Moon...my hearing has never been the same since.

3. Led Zeppelin May 30,1977 Capital Centre Front Row....The first was the first just for the sheer excitement of seeing Plant inches from me....this one was because the performance was .....well get the boot and see.

4. The Grateful Dead July 13, 1984 Greek Theatre Berkley,CA..this was the boys 15th B-day party.

5. GOMEZ Oct 18, 2004 The Handlebar,Greenville,SC HOLY SHIT!!

Really and truely the boys garner the 5th spot on my list!!! What a performance...too bad the sound system was so wimpy there.

6. Roger Waters Sept 12, 1988 McNichols Arena Denver,CO This show blew Pink Floyd away.....I can't believe I just said that in public...but it was one of the best things I've ever seen Roger do.

7. Robert Plant Sept 14,1990 Red Rocks Morrison,CO....I,ve seen Plant SO many times, but this was a very special performance....mind numbing.

8. Queen/Thin Lizzy 1976 Cole Field House University of MD....shitty acoustics.....but phenomenal performance....I saw Queen 4 or 5 times...this was by far the best. Lizzy tore it up as well.

9. Little Feat w/Lowell George....March 78 Warner Theatre DC I was at 7 of the 14 shows...this is where they recorded Waiting For Columbus, so I need to list all 7 shows I saw as #9.

10.GOMEZ Aug 12, 2004 Orange Peel,Asheville,NC....Truely Gomez are in my top 10 shows TWICE!!!!!!! I believe they will keep bustin' my list!

11.Grateful Dead July22, 1984 Ventura<CA...The Dead played on the beach for two days.....we camped and swam in the ocean to the Dead!!! Just pure magic.

12. Yes/Donavan Aug. 16, 1977 Capital Centre MD...great show I got to sit on stage next to Steve Howe for this show.....

13.Talking Heads 1983 Red Rocks,CO...this was incredible....they played Burnin' Down THe House TWICE....

14.Grateful Dead Dec 31,1983 San Fran Civic Centre....New Years Eve turning 1984......4 shows....so much fun...this show ended at 5:00am with Bill Graham giving ALL in attendance a bagged breakfast of bagel and apple to leave with.

15. Lenny Kravitz Oct 16,1999 ABQ Convention Centre...I can't believe Lenny made it on my list either...but THIS show was stellar.

So I post this list to show how IMPORTANT I feel this band Gomez is! OK now let's do a Zep cover for the next tour guys.

I was at the Rolling Stones , Richie Colliseum Buffalo NY 1978 on my stub it doesn't have the date. I remember winning a white tuxedo Stones jacket from the radio for that show.
