Mudbugclub
29th Nov 1999, The RIAA announced that Led Zeppelin were only the third act in music history to achieve four or more Diamond albums, a Diamond album being awarded for accredited sales of more than 10 million units in the US. SuperDave
And those albums would be? I know that the RIAA considers single albums and doubl one album in sales and two respectively. Those four albums would probably be: Led Zep IV: Definitely Led Zep II: Yes also Physical Graffiti: Great album being in double album status. Probably certain as well as album sales on this were quite strong as well. Not quite sure of the last one, but would have to be HOTH or the Ist. Anyone know for certain? Also, quite possible l to consider the original box set from 1990 as well with 4 cds. One of the best selling box sets ever. More info would be helpful. Mudbugclub
From www.thisdayinmusic.com December 10, 2007 On September 12, 2007, London concert promoter Harvey Goldsmith made legions of music and Led Zeppelin fans ecstatic when he announced that the band would reform and play a tribute concert to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund. Ertegun signed the band back in the ’60s, and had died in 2006. The show at London’s O2 Arena was due to take place on November 26 but Jimmy Page’s injured hand delayed proceedings until this day in 2007. Getting the individual band members to agree on the performance took time and persuasion and, in the end, came down to music. David Campbell, president of AEF Europe and therefore in charge of the O2 Arena, took Zeppelin to the venue to see an Elton John concert, as he told Gigwise. “We were going through [the venue] with the band, and [Jimmy Page] said, ‘I bet it doesn’t sound any good up there.’ So, with all of them, as well as Harvey [Goldstein] and myself, we took the elevator up to Level 4 to go to the very top of the building to have a listen. “Someone held the elevator, and we were sort of standing there waiting for them to go. They just put their thumbs up, and sort of smiled at each other. That’s when Harvey and I knew that this was going to be OK. Then, John Paul Jones started running up and down the stairs; and that was it.” The Sunday Times called the much-desired reunion ticket “the hottest… of the century so far” with only 9,000 pairs available that were drawn from 1 million online applicants worldwide at $200 each. Those lucky enough to witness history started their evening with Bill Wyman, and his Rhythm Kings as well sets by Paul Rodgers, Foreigner, Maggie Bell and Ertegun’s final signing, Paolo Nutini. And so, on the night of December 10, 2007, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin reunited for a one-off benefit with Jason Bonham taking his late father’s place on drums. Hamish McBain was there for London’s NME. “Jimmy Page is lit up by lasers and at the song’s climax Robert Plant yells out ‘Jimmy Page on electric guitar!’ in a moment that resonates right back to their first gigs in the late ’60s,” he wrote. “‘Stairway To Heaven’ follows. Ridiculous in many ways, it’s still a song that everyone present thought was fated to only be performed by dodgy pub covers bands and not again by its creators. Playing this well-known classic proves a shrewd move, as it gently reminds everyone present just which giant-sized rock band they’re dealing with. “‘Kashmir’ finishes the main set sounding incredible before the band take a bow and they’re gone. Rapturous applause follows as you might expect, but its nothing compared to the sheer mania that greets the first encore song ‘Whole Lotta Love.’ Not many bands have one of those, you see. “If there were skeptics here tonight – there weren’t but just for the sake of argument consider it – Led Zeppelin silenced them and banished any rotten memories of their shambolic Live Aid reunion. More importantly, though, what they have done here tonight is prove that they can still perform to the level that originally earned them their legendary reputation.” Or, as Robert Plant said during the show, “Hey, Ahmet. We did it. From www.thisdayinmusic.com

dazedjeffy
16 December 1968 » Led Zeppelin - Bath, England @ Bath Pavilion Yellow Brick Road had a gig coming up on 16. December as support to Led Zeppelin at the Bath Pavilion. The gig was billed as the Jeff Beck Group. But, they had pulled out, so the gig was given to Led Zeppelin who only received a mere £75 for doing it. I remember the night due to the fact that Nick Howell had put his pedal through his bass drum. Martin ran on and changed the drum around, as the band still played. While this was going on, I noticed Jimmy Page and Robert Plant watching from the wings. Robert looked at me and said. ‘Does your Roadie always come on stage if things go wrong when you are playing?’ ‘All the time.’ I answered. ‘Jimmy, we must remember that.’ He remarked. I noticed that Jimmy was just watching as the band carried on playing. That was such a great night. Led Zeppelin would have played ‘The Train Kept A Rollin‘‘ and ‘Dazed & Confused’, both songs that Page had played when he was in The Yardbirds, while others were based on blues standards. -Stewart Guy 16 December 1972 » Led Zeppelin - Birmingham, West Midlands, England @ Birmingham Odeon Theatre 16 December 1990 » Robert Plant - Newport, England @ Newport Civic Centre 16 December 1993 » Robert Plant - Milan, Italy @ Palasesto Edited December 16, 2010 by dazedjeffy
