May 5, 1990 - Led Zeppelin play a reunion set at Jason Bonham's wedding

The death of thundering drummer John “Bonzo” Bonham on September 25, 1980, was an insurmountable loss for Led Zeppelin: the band disbanded three months later, issuing the official announcement, "We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend and the deep respect we have for his family together with the sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager have led us to decide we could not continue as we were.”

Singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, and bassist John Paul Jones continued to perform and record, occasionally with each other: Page and Plant formed the R&B group the Honeydrippers in 1981 (which also featured Page’s fellow Yardbirds alum Jeff Beck) and joined with Jones to release an album of Led Zep outtakes, Coda, in 1982. The surviving trio regrouped for a short set at Live Aid in 1985, with Phil Collins and Tony Thompson sitting in on drums, but Page and Plant were reportedly infuriated by the performance.

Led Zeppelin’s next gig, five years later, was a much more joyous affair. Page, Plant, and Jones reformed for a lengthy jam at the wedding of Bonzo’s son, Jason Bonham, in Kidderminster, England. The groom sat in on drums, and the immediate chemistry of that lineup proved the catalyst for the band’s biggest reunion to date: the Ahmet Ertegün Tribute Concert on December 10, 2007, at O2 Arena in London….with Jason Bonham sitting in for his father again.

I thought that Jason Bonham's wedding was on April 28, 1990 (in Bewdley, Worcestershire!)

Methinks you posted this in the wrong thread; maybe you meant to post it in the "Articles about Led Zeppelin" thread. You have an article dated May 2, 2011, referencing ANOTHER article dated May 5, 1990, about an event that happened on April 28, 1990. And as usual for Rolling Stone, it's full of malarkey.

The writer forgets that the band played at the Atlantic Records 40th Birthday concert in 1988, so no, Jason Bonham's wedding was NOT the first time in five years that they had got together. And, really Stacey, a "catalyst for the band's biggest reunion to date"?

Noun 1. catalyst - (chemistry) a substance that initiates or accelerates a chemical reaction without itself being affected

2. catalyst - something that causes an important event to happen; "the invasion acted as a catalyst to unite the country"

Yeah, it took ONLY 17 years for them to get together again for the Ahmet Ertegun Memorial Tribute concert. Not quite what I'd call a "catalyst"; hell, Robert Plant had reinvented himself several times over in that span from 1990 to 2007.

Anyway, I think its best for the purity of this thread to keep it simple; just post about events that happened on the day that they occurred...like Deborah J has been doing all this time. Any articles and such should be posted in the "articles" section.

Well, I'm going to show my age here...

This is SOOOO FREAKING AWESOME! Thank you planted...I owe you big time, as you've helped to clear my foggy memory. :thanku:

You see, I saw Elvis Presley 4 times in the 70's, and I thought Elvis had mentioned Led Zeppelin being in the audience at one of the shows; but was confused about whether it was at the 1973 or 1974 show. Now, I know for sure...it was May 11, 1974, 37 years ago today. Hmmmmm, time sure flies. :whistling:

I couldn't believe it when Elvis mentioned that Led Zeppelin was in attendance at the show...my head immediately started spinning like it was on a swivel stick, trying to locate them. By the way, Elvis was still pretty good at this stage. It wasn't until I saw him in 1976 that you could see the decline; he was fat and sweaty then.

But the time I saw him in 1972(Long Beach) was the best of all 4 Elvis Presley concerts I attended.

Having seen concerts at both the Rose Palace and the Santa Monica Civic, I can only imagine how loud the sound must have been at a Led Zeppelin show at these venues. There doesn't seem to be ANY tapes of these shows, which I find puzzling, since by this point in time, Led Zeppelin was building a buzz through the concert scene.

Has anyone else heard of either the Rose Palace or the Santa Monica Civic shows being taped/booted ever?

You don't owe me anything..(.well, I do love Hermes scarves, or Chanel...oh nevermind!!;)) ALL the credit goes to WZLX 100.7/Boston. They play "The Stairway to Seven" at, you guessed it, 7pm weeknights. A 3 song block party and fun little tid bits.

Thank you for sharing! Look atchoo...seein Elvis 4 times. I was living in Europe when he died..my Mom cried for days.

Wasn't this 1975? Not trying to be a prick...I know this takes a lot of time and effort.

Nope...YOU ARE RIGHT! My error...I was thinking the Superdome was their only scheduled New Orleans stop in 1977.

I should've known better than to question you, Deborah. :notworthy:
