Strider
August 23rd 1966 - Jimmy Page-The Yardbird-Avalon,Catalina Island,CA./Casino Ballroom 1969 - Led Zeppelin-Dania, FL./Pirates World Okay, am I the only one INTRIGUED by these two dates? I've been to the Casino Ballroom on Catalina Island, so the fact Jimmy and the Yardbirds played there is fascinating. It's not a common stop for rock and roll bands on tour, that's for sure. Do any photos or recordings exist of this gig? Was this during the time Jimmy and Jeff Beck were playing guitar, or was Jimmy still on bass at this point? Then there's the 1969 gig...Led Zeppelin at Pirates World! I would kill for a photo of that marquee! Pirates World sounds like those tourist-trap theme-restaurants we have out here in Orange County, like Medieval Times. Where the hell is Dania? Again, have any photos or recordings surfaced of this gig? This would've been the perfect night for Jimmy to wear his white puffy shirt. Deborah J
Hi Strider^^ I think that was the last date that Jimmy & Jeff were together in the Yardbirds. Here is a link to Pirates World. I was part of the opening team of the Westin Dipolmat Hotel and Dania/Dania Beach was only a couple of miles from the hotel (basically a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale). http://www.lostparks.com/piratesw.html August 25th 1966 - Robert Plant-Listen-Wolverhampton* 1966 - Jimmy Page-The Yardbirds-San Francisco, CA./Carousel Ballroom 1967 - Jimmy Page-The Yardbirds-New York, NY./Village Theater (2 shows) 1967 - Robert Plant-Band Of Joy-Erdington, Birmingham, West Midlands, England/Carlton Club 1970 - Led Zeppelin-Nashville, TN./Municiple Auditorium 1994 - Page & Plant-Unledded/Studio 2, London TV Studios 1999 - Robert Plant-Priory Of Brion UK Tour-The Walls,Welsh Walls/Oswertry, Shropshire 2002- Robert Plant-North American Tour-Noblesville, IN./Verizon Wireless Music Center Edited August 25, 2011 by Deborah J

Strider, if you look at posts #481, #482, etc. Here you can see some photos from the Yardies' Avalon gig that were on Jimmy's official page for that day. He also has some vintage photos and info about the LZ show at Pirates World Here (posts #462 and #463).
Strider
Thanks MSG! I have to admit I haven't exactly been keeping up with Jimmy's On This Day posts. Good thing people are archiving it for slackers such as myself.
SuperDave
I think on this day back in 1983 was the beginning of Robert's first solo tour. I would see him for the first time of many to follow on September 13th at the Hartford Civic Center. One of my most memorable shows. Having great seats helped too! Let's try to keep the purity of this thread without ruining the flow with unnecessary and irrelevant items. A post about a cover band belongs somewhere else...try a search for a thread about Led Zeppelin cover bands; there must be one. Or start a thread in the Other bands/music section. Deborah works so hard to keep this thread accurate and going that I hate to see it derailed by gobbledygook.

Jahfin
On this day in 1968 Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham made their live debut as Led Zeppelin but billed as the New Yardbirds in Denmark. 1,200 attended the show. A review stated; "Their performance and their music were absolutely flawless. We can conclude that the New Yardbirds are at least as good as the old ones were". Mudbugclub
From This Day in Led Zeppelin 14th Sept 1974, All four members of Led Zeppelin attended the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Joni Mitchell gig at Wembley Stadium, London, England. Later that evening, at Quaglino's Restaurant in St. James Place, Jimmy Page and John Bonham jammed at the after-show party with Neil Young, Graham Nash and Stephen Stills. I would've paid good money to see that! http://youtu.be/-QsSc95pPPY
