Back in January we reported on the Show of Peace, announced with much fanfare (with the support of rock legend Jimmy Page), and supposedly scheduled for April 17 this year. Aside from a “clarification” issued by the organizers when theBeijinger.com and China Music Radar reported that one of the “confirmed” acts was actually playing in Japan the night of the concert, the promoters have been suspiciously quiet in recent weeks. So it was no surprise when we received a notice today stating the Show of Peace has been postponed until October.

This was the full text of the notice, issued by the organizers and confirmed by the "Show of Peace" committee when contacted by the Beijinger:

“With the agreement of Ministry of Culture, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the organizers of the International Show of Peace Concert have discussed and decided to change the date of the concert to October 10, 2010 - 10/10/10.

The concert, originally planned for April 17, will be held at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium. The CPAFFC has considered all aspects. To ensure the absolute success of the concert, the leaders concerned have deliberated and decided to adjust the date of the concert to October 10th, 2010.”

The Beijinger has heard whispers that the organizers have faced pressure to move the concert inside the Bird's Nest National Stadium (rather than staging it beside the stadium as originally planned). Word is that a crowd inside the stadium is considered easier to control. Fair enough too – you never know what could happen at a concert for world peace.

More news if and when it comes to hand – but don’t hold your breath Beijingers. It’s a long wait till October, and we all know what happened to Oasis... and the Buzzcocks... and the Killers... and Dylan. Still, at least the Back Street Boys have made it to town.

Who cares????

Yep, I'm in agreement with you there 'goon1399', the only reason anyone wants to be friendly with anyone else on this planet is for profit and gain, i already have 3 Chinese Take Aways, a Chinese Restaurant and a Noodle Bar withing walking distance and i don't want anymore, and just like the "Made in Taiwan" products of my youth all the Chinese can offer us is Copied, Stolen, or Cheap Rubbish and Rice, I'll take the Rice but the rest can be put back on the Junk with all their other Junk and then taken out in too the Ocean and Sunk. :o:lol:

Regards, Danny

Please don't tell me you've thought this show was really gonna happen.

And that goes for anybody.

Besides, Jimmy doesn't have time. He's got to stay busy signing his book that's coming out by Christmas

Hopefully
