Zep 4 Life
I watch a lot of movies, and I think that the soundtrack can really make a good movie into a great movie. So I thought I would ask you guys what movies you guys love that have great 'classic rock' soundtracks. My top 3 are Dazed and Confused, Outside Providence and Almost Famous, in no particular order. Dazed and Confused: 1. Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo - Rick Derringer 2. Slow Ride - Foghat 3. School's Out - Alice Cooper, Alice Cooper 4. Jim Dandy - Black Oak Arkansas 5. Tush - ZZ Top 6. Love Hurts - Nazareth 7. Stranglehold - Ted Nugent 8. Cherry Bomb - The Runaways 9. Fox on the Run - Sweet, Sweet 10. Low Rider - War 11. Tuesday's Gone - Lynyrd Skynyrd 12. Highway Star - Deep Purple 13. Rock and Roll All Nite - Kiss 14. Paranoid - Black Sabbath Outside Providence: 1. Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who 2. Band on the Run - Wings 3. Starbreaker
The "Top Gun" soundtrack is pretty awesome as well if I might add.
Jahfin
The "Top Gun" soundtrack is pretty awesome as well if I might add. Yep, that one is top notch from start to finish. I especially love Danger Zone. One can never get enough Kenny Loggins soundtrack music. This isn't rock but it's definitely classic:
Zep 4 Life
The "Top Gun" soundtrack is pretty awesome as well if I might add. Agreed, although I would consider it more of an 'awesome 80's' soundtrack. Great music!
Jahfin
Agreed, although I would consider it more of an 'awesome 80's' soundtrack. Great music! Indeed it is, they just don't assemble soundtracks like Top Gun anymore: 1. Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins 2. Mighty Wings - Cheap Trick 3. Playing With the Boys - Kenny Loggins 4. Lead Me On - Teena Marie 5. Take My Breath Away [Love Theme from Top Gun] - Berlin 6. Hot Summer Nights - Miami Sound Machine 7. Heaven in Your Eyes - Loverboy 8. Through the Fire - Larry Greene 9. Destination Unknown - Marietta 10. Top Gun Anthem - Harold Faltermeyer/Steve Stevens 11. (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay [*] - Otis Redding 12. Memories [*] - Harold Faltermeyer 13. Great Balls of Fire [Original Version][*] - Jerry Lee Lewis 14. You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' [*] - Righteous Brothers 15. Playing With the Boys [Dance Mix][*] - Kenny Loggins 16. Playing With the Boys [12" Version] - Kenny Loggins

Did they not have permission to include (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay or Great Balls of Fire when the Soundtrack was originally released? Also, in regards to Danger Zone (awesome song), It heard somewhere that it wasn't planned to have it on the album. I could be wrong about this, but I think originally the creattors wanted the song "Reckless" by Judas Priest to be the main hard-rocking song on the album, but Judas Priest turned them down because they had never heard of Tom Cruise. Can anyone confirm this?

kaiser
"Rushmore" by a landslide. The music is quirky & fun just like the movie, with great songs by The Creation, John Lennon, The Who, Cat Stevens, Unit 4+2, The Kinks, Chad & Jeremey, and more. "The Royal Tennenbaum's" is a close second especially for the use of The Stones "She Smiled Sweetly" & Nico's "These Days". I also really like the soundtrack to "American Beauty" as well, particularly Elliot Smiths' cover of The Beatles "Because".

Can anyone confirm this? Judas Priest were asked to contribute the song "Reckless" to the soundtrack, but declined because they thought the movie would flop. Two years later, they contributed a cover of Johnny Be Good (1988) to the movie of the same name, which turned out to be a flop.
