Virginia
If I want the whole thing I get a CD (I like having something solid, with cover art, credits/lyrics etc). If I just want a few songs I download. My albums all warped and my mid 80s turntable is questionable so I no longer do vinyl.
ledzepfvr
I usually get a CD if there is something I really want to listen to. I have a collection of vinyl albums and 45's from when I was a teenager that I value but never listen to anymore. We did get a turntable last year in case nostalgia strikes but only used it once so far. Maybe I'll break it out tonight for old times sake. Electrophile
Depends. I have a lot of vinyl, a lot of CDs and a lot of mp3s. For the most part though, if I'm at home listening to music, it's vinyl and if I'm in the car or otherwise traveling, it's my iPod.
Swede
Only mp3s I have is music I have transfered from my vinyl and cd collection. I did get a free download of Fleet Foxes album when I bought their vinyl, but I gave that away to my girlfriend.
DMachine
As of now I have loads of mp3 files, the main reason is I like to listen before I buy and I never get around to deleting them. When I find something I like, I buy the CD. All my vinyls are just laying around because my turntable broke.
toscano
All formats. Typically I'll download first to try before I buy. If I like I buy, preferably on vinyl. If no vinyl, then CD. I actually still enjoy taking some "quality time" and sitting down and listening to music rather than have it only be as background for the car, gym, etc. 2 "normal" kids, a 'special needs' kid, a wife, a stressful job; I need that 'escape'. dazedcat
Unless it's FLAC I won't download music at all. I prefer vinyl if I can still get it but if not then CD. I don't do mp3 or other lossy formats.
Footsteps of Dawn
CD. I can listen to them in my car as well as on my iPod, and the "real deal" CDs are easier to organize than burnt CDs because they say the album/band name on the side of the case (weird, nitpicky thing, but you kinda reach a point where organization is necessary). Plus, my CD burner is broken, so I couldn't burn my downloads to a CD anyway. I do still download single songs, though, either to try a band out or if I know I just want that one song, or if I just can't wait to buy the CD (and it's getting harder to find music stores with any selection at all around here). I prefer listening to vinyl over CDs at home, but it's a bummer that you can't take it in the car with you. Doesn't stop me from having quite a few records, though, heh.
