Tripmender
I was in the US on holiday in July/Aug 77, and I remember asking my dad to see if he could get me a ticket for a LZ show. The closest ones were in Pittsburgh & Philly in August, but of course when we checked it out, they were sold out - most likely sold out on Day One! So then I tried to persuade him to take me to one of the shows on spec, to see if we could get a ticket from a scalper. He said no, but I kept working on him, until a couple of days later I heard that Karac had died. I've always wondered how much we'd have had to pay if things had turned out differently. Anybody got any idea how much scalpers were charging on the 77 tour? And could you pretty much guarantee you'd get one if you were prepared to pay the price, or were they really rare? LZ77
^ some of the reviews in the Concert Timeline show people paid around $20 for scalper tix. $20 freakin' dollars to see Led Zeppelin in 1977.

Nutrocker
Still value for money, though- especially by today's standards. We'd all be paying through the fucking nose if Zeppelin were touring today ($20? Try $200 for good seats)! But who's complaining? You got upwards of three hours of non stop music -Zep put on a pretty good show, I'd say- which not a lotta acts these days can claim. Adjusted for inflation, $20 in 1977 is equivalent to $80.60 in 2010. Fortunately, I scored an $8.50 ticket to see them at MSG in '77, which would translate to $34.26 in 2010. Poindexter
I paid $20 for a $10 general admission ticket for the May 18, 1977 venue in Birmingham, Alabama. Damn scalpers.

Tripmender
33 years ago tonight I saw Led Zeppelin in Landover MD. A night to remember. The best night of my life!!! Very jealous, silver. That was the local venue for us in 77. If I'd been on holiday in May 77 instead of July/Aug, I might well have seen them there too. As it turned out, after I couldn't get a ticket for LZ, I had to settle for 2 other Cap Center July gigs instead - Yes (supported by Donovan) and then Peter Frampton (supported by Derringer, who ROCKED!!). Both were enjoyable, but not even close, and certainly no whiff of cigar!

A sheer miracle that either an ex wife or crazy ex girlfrind didnt get their hands on it. I cant keep anything for 3 hours let alone 33 yrs! Shows how much it means to me. I was wondering recently what happened to my Knebworth stub, until I read somewhere (on here, probably) that the whole ticket was taken on the way in...still got the programme, though

Nice to have something. My story is on timeline. I got robbed the night before. Slept outdoors in the woods behind a church. Saw a pack of wild dogs. Partied all day behind the Capital Center thanks to a couple of groupies that drove down from Pennslyvania. I felt sorry for them as they had no tickets. I was offered $100 per ticket at the door and wisely declined the offer. A hefty offer for 1977.

Be interesting to hear from a 2010 prespective of seeing the band back in '77. Cheers.
ally
I can tell you thast scalpers were not an issue for the Seattle gig. TBH, friends of mine had plenty of tickets if they hadn't talked me into going to the show, I probably wouldn't have gone. They were a dime a dozen in Vancouver and to most of us at the time, Zep were finished . Sadly, the gig proved that....to me at least

Even if they had a full blown tour, the scalp prices would be off the charts. Right there with a Beatles reunion.
