Rock N' Rollin' Man
Anyone else into this genre of music/sub-genre of folk music. Well, I've been greatly enjoying a good number of artists from the initial run which lasted from 1967 to 1977 or so. Started by The Incredible String Band and is also probably the most famous, played at Woodstock. There's also a revival going on now called New Weird America, but I haven't really checked out any of those artists. Here's some of my favorite bands with links to more info and a youtube video. Forest At the top in this genre. Full Circle, released in 1970 I tell you is a masterpiece. First s/t album is good but nowhere near as their second and last album already mentioned. http://www.scaruffi.com/vol2/forest.html Dr. Strangely Strange Such lovely music, great vocals and flute. Their two albums Kip of the Serenes and Heavy Petting are essential, Halcyon Days an album was recently discovered in the Island vaults is also recommended. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HElbhtF0NCo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Strangely_Strange The Incredible String Band Great band, released a good number of albums start with The 5000 Spirits Or The Layers Of The Onion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incredible_String_Band Spirogyra I think their three albums are great but the vocals might put some people off. Barbara Gaskin's voice on the other hand are just splendid, top class. St. Radigunds, Old Boot Wine, and Bells, Boots and Shambles are their albums. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirogyra_(band) Trees Hmmm, great female vocals. Two albums, The Garden of Jane Delawney and On the Shore. http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/xqw6 Mellow Candle Another band with female vox and they also are lovely. Just one album, Swaddling Songs. http://www.progreviews.com/reviews/display.php?rev=mc-ss http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mellow_Candle Comus First Utterance is probably the most weird, trippy album I've listened to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comus_(band) http://www.comusmusic.co.uk/ Dead Man A good deal of their music fits nicely with psych-folk rock. A band from today, have released two albums their s/t and Euphoria. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_SRgvPKkYk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Man_(band)
ledzep45
I'm so tottaly into this too! Forest and Mellow Candle are great (I don't know much about the other bands). I'm into alot of other folky stuff from the 60's/70's (john martyn, nick drake, heron etc), you into much of that stuff?
Rock N' Rollin' Man
I do listen to Nick Drake and like his music but I can't say I've listened to John Martyn nor Heron. I'll check them out. Folk music is my second favorite genre and other folkies I listen to from the 60's and 70's are Townes Van Zandt, Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes, Fairport Convention, Pearls Before Swine. Newer ones, Fleet Foxes, Ray LaMontagne.

Rock N' Rollin' Man
Not sure about the John Martyn song but I really liked the song "Yellow Roses" by Heron that you linked to, thanks. Here's a song by my favorite folk artist, Townes Van Zandt.

Here's a song by my favorite folk artist, Townes Van Zandt. Glad you liked it The Townes Van Zandt song is quite cool. I listened to some of his other stuff and thought they were okay. For me personaly his music/voice tend's to vear towards a country style, which is okay but not my kinda thing. Have you got the compilation 'Gather In The Mushrooms'? It's a great acid folk compilation, its worth checking out .
Rock N' Rollin' Man
Yeah, his stuff does go in a more country style not at all related to psych folk, I'd say country folk. I have heard of the compilation 'Gather In The Mushrooms' but don't have it, do want it. Edit: It's worthy of note that there is a book coming late this year on this genre we speak of. Seasons They Change: The Story Of Acid, Psych and Experimental Folk That book looks great, I might have to pre-order it lol Have you heard of Nick Drake's (among others...) producer Joe Boyd? I went to a talk he gave and it was really interesting. He was manager of the UFO club in london (where pink floyd, tomorrow etc played). By the way, here's some great 60's phsyc pop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcUTO8GtnH8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHkrSkoSBiw&feature=related

Rock N' Rollin' Man
Humble Pie is cool the Fillmore live album is superb. The Small Faces are also good which Steve Marriot was in. Yeah, Captain Beyond is great members of Deep Purple (Rod Evans), Iron Butterfly (Lee Dorman, Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt), and Armageddon (Bobby Caldwell). You might be interested in more obscure heavy psych/hard rock listed here Edited May 13, 2010 by Rock N' Rollin' Man

Rock N' Rollin' Man
Argus!!! Love that album. Most of the material of Foghat is along the same lines, i.e. it's boogie rock. Even more cool bands: Quicksilver Messenger Service http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDkVaAieF8o The Gates of Slumber This band's music conveys images of the evil forces in the Lord of the Rings. Lol Graveyard Saw this band last year they're so great. Edited May 13, 2010 by Rock N' Rollin' Man
