"Some folks are born made to wave the flag,

ooh, they're red, white and blue.

And when the band plays "Hail To The Chief",

oh, they point the cannon at you"

You know you've got to go through hell before you get to heaven- Steve Miller, "Jet Airliner"

I love that line and that song! smile.gif

Keeping with the theme of "heaven", I love this song, too:

Turn, Turn, Turn

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)

There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)

And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die

A time to plant, a time to reap

A time to kill, a time to heal

A time to laugh, a time to weep

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)

There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)

And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down

A time to dance, a time to mourn

A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)

There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)

And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time of love, a time of hate

A time of war, a time of peace

A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)

There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)

And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose

A time to rend, a time to sew

A time to love, a time to hate

A time for peace, I swear it's not too late

You beat me to it on that one. I love the live version. :)

Too many teardrops

For one heart to be cryin'

Too many tearsdrops

For one heart to carry on

You're gonna cry 96 tears

Goes to visit his mommy

She feeds him well his concerns

He forgets them

And remembers being small

Playing under the table and dreaming

-------------------------------------

If you smile at me, I will understand

'Cause that is something everybody

everywhere does in the same language

-------------------------------------

You can spend all your time making money

You can spend all your love making time

If it all fell to pieces tomorrow

Would you still be mine?

-------------------------------------

One of my favorites by Joe Walsh

I have a mansion but forget the price

Ain't never been there, they tell me its nice

I live in hotels, tear out the walls

I have accountants pay for it all

They say I'm crazy but I have a have a good time

I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime

Life's been good to me so far

My Maseratti does one-eighty-five

I lost my license, now I don't drive

I have a limo, ride in the back

I lock the doors in case I'm attacked

I'm making records, my fans they can't wait

They write me letters, tell me I'm great

So I got me an office, gold records on the wall

Just leave a message, maybe I'll call

Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through

I can't complain but sometimes I still do

Life's been good to me so far

I go to parties sometimes until four

It's hard to leave when you can't find the door

It's tough to handle this fortune and fame

Everybody's so different, I haven't changed

They say I'm lazy but it takes all my time

I keep on goin' guess I'll never know why

Life's been good to me so far

Three Dog Night

Want some whiskey in your water

Sugar in your tea

What's all these crazy questions they askin' me

This is the craziest party there could ever be

Don't turn on the lights, 'cause I don't want to see

Mama told me not to come

Mama told me not to come

That ain't the way to have fun, no

Open up the window

Let some air into this room

I think I'm almost chokin'

From the smell of stale perfume

And that cigarette you're smoking

'Bout scared me half to death

Open up the window, sucker

Let me catch my breath

Mama told me not to come

Mama told me not to come

She said, that ain't the way to have fun, son

That ain't the way to have fun, son

The radio is blastin'

Someone's knocking at the door

I'm lookin' at my girlfriend

She's passed out on the floor

I seen so many things

I ain't never seen before

Don't know what it is

I don't wanna see no more

Mama told me, mama told me, mama told me

Told me, told me

That ain't no way to have fun, whoah, yeah yeah

Mama told me not to come

Mama, mama, mama told me

That ain't no way to have fun

That ain't the way to have fun, no

That ain't the way to have fun, son

That ain't the way to have fun, no

That ain't the way to have fun, son

It was rumoured to be Minneapolis, MN.

It was. Always thought it was Cleveland, but that was Wild Cherry and "Play That Funky Music White Boy"

Also, i must correct myself. "Funkytown" does have more lyrics than that one line.

"Well they talk about it, talk about it, talk about it, talk about it!"

"Talk about it, talk about it, talk about it ohhhhohhhhohhh!"

Then I think it's "gotta keep movin" or something like that.

Why in the hell would I be concerned about this damn song, I hated the very core of disco trash.

I don't believe it - Don't touch me

Hey Ray, hey Sugar, tell them who we are...

Well, we're big rock singers we got golden fingers

and we're loved everywhere we go

(That sounds like us)

We sing about beauty and we sing about truth

at ten-thousand dollars a show (Right)

We take all kinds of pills that give us all kind of thrills

but the thrill we'll never know

Is the thrill that'll getcha when you get your picture

on the cover of the Rollin' Stone

(Rollin' Stone) Wanna see my picture on the c'over

(Stone) Wanna buy five copies for my mother (Yes)

(Stone) Wanna see my smilin' face

on the cover of the Rollin' Stone

(That's a very, very good idea)

I got a freaky ole lady, name a cocaine Katy who embroideries on my jeans

I got my poor ole grey haired daddy drivin' my limousine

Now it's all designed to blow our minds but our minds won't really be blown

Like the blow that'll getcha when you get your picture

on the cover of the Rollin' Stone

(Rollin' Stone) Wanna see our pictures on the cover

(Stone) Wanna buy five copies for our mothers (Yeah)

(Stone) Wanna see my smilin' face

on the cover of the Rollin' Stone

Hey (Sure enough), I know how,

rock and roll...

Ah, that's beautiful...

We got a lot of little teenage blue-eyed groupies who do anything we say

We got a genuine Indian Guru who's teaching us a better way

We got all the friends that money can buy so we never have to be alone (No)

And we keep getting richer but we can't get our picture

on the cover of the Rollin' Stone

(Rollin' Stone) Wanna see my picture on the cover

(Stone) Wanna buy five copies for my mother (I want one)

(Stone) Wanna see my smilin' face on the cover of the Rollin' Stone

On the cover of the Rollin'…

(Stone (And us))

Wanna see my picture on the cover (I don't know why we ain't on the cover, baby)

(Stone) Wanna buy five copies for my mother (We're beautiful fellows)

(Stone) Wanna see my smilin' face

On the cover of the Rollin' Stone.

I ain't kiddin' ya, we would make a beautiful cover

Fresh shot, right up front man I can see it now,

we'd be on the front, smilin' man

Aah, beautiful...

I'm gonna sing those songs that offend the censors

Gonna pop my pills from a Pez dispenser

Get washed-up singers writing all my songs

Lip sync 'em every night so I don't get 'em wrong

Well, we all just wanna be big rockstars

Live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars

The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap

We'll all stay skinny cause we just won't eat

And we'll hang out in the coolest bars

In the VIP with the movie stars

Every good gold digger's gonna wind up there

Every Playboy bunny with her bleach blonde hair

And we'll hide out in the private rooms

With the latest dictionary in today's who's who

We'll get you anything with that evil smile

Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial well..

Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar.

In keeping with the O'Jays...

For the love of money people will lie, Lord, they will cheat

For the love of money people don't care who they hurt or beat

For the love of money a woman will sell her precious body

For a small piece of paper it carries a lot of weight.

Tool

Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position -

Such a heavy burden now to be the One

born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending,

to write it down for all the world to see.

But I forgot my pen...

The police in New York City,

they chased a boy right through the park.

And in a case of mistaken identity

they put a bullet through his heart.

Heartbreakers with your forty-four,

I wanna tear your world apart,

you heartbreaker with your forty-four,

I wanna tear your world apart,

A ten year old girl on a street corner,

Sticking needles in her arm.

She died in the dirt of an alleyway,

her mother said she had no chance, no chance!

Heartbreaker, heartbreaker

she stuck the pins right in her heart

Heartbreaker, painmaker

stole the love right out of your heart

Heartbreaker, heartbreaker

You stole the love right out of my heart

Heartbreaker, heartbreaker

I wanna tear your world apart.

white Americans, what?

nothing better to do?

why don't you kick yourself out

you're an immigrant too.

who's using who? what should we do?

well, you can't be a pimp

and a prostitute too.

-----------------------

Hey Jack, now for the tricky part,

when you were the brightest star who were the shadows?

Of the San Francisco beat boys you were the favorite.

Now they sit and rattle their bones and

think of their blood stoned days.

You chose your words from mouths of babes got lost in the wood.

The hip flask slinging madman, steaming cafe flirts,

nights in Chinatown howling at night.

-----------------------

Dragon tales and the "water is wide"

Pirate's sail and lost boys fly

Fish bite moonbeams every night

And I love you

Godspeed, little man

Sweet dreams, little man

Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings

Godspeed

Sweet dreams
