Tripmender
Apologies if there's already a thread for this, but approximately how many uncirculated live shows are known or strongly rumoured to exist? Is it likely now to be mainly SBDs of already circulating shows, rather than previously uncirculated shows? And where are they - still being hoarded, worshipped & lubricated by the tapers, or already sold on to the boot labels who are waiting their moment? Tripmender
You're probably right, Tom. I can just picture him sitting on tons of astonishing SBDs till the day he dies, convinced that they're sub-standard and that they would diminish his reputation if he released them, whereas in fact most of us would probably buy TWO copies of his book just for the chance to hear them...but I'm thinking mainly about any uncirculated AUD tapes, which JP probably wouldn't be interested in. I mean, you often see amusing flamings on ROIO sites between sad old elitist butterfly collectors who claim to have a tape of a gig no-one's ever heard. How many of these have people heard of, I wonder? Also, though not 'live', awhile ago someone leaked an awesome 4min extract from a 69 LZ2 session tape, which supposedly lasts an hour. So where did this come from, and when do we get to hear the rest? Eh??
tom kid
The '77 Baton Rouge show exists, Freezer just won't release it yet. I believe he was going to, but then someone leaked it so he decided not to. I don't know the specifics. I'm sure Nutrocker will see this thread and fill you in in more detail though. Or check out the 'Dallas April 1st 1977' thread, just a couple below yours. Lots of info about tapes that supposedly exist from '77.
3hrsoflunacy
Here's the short answer - a lot, and I am not referring to SBD recordings. Here's the long answer - You asked a very simple question about a delicate subject. You aren't gonna see a lot of people come running in here saying this exists, that exists, and whatnot. Why? Because it gets people panties in a wad because they can't have it. Not everyone, but a majority. So, unless it is something already openly discussed (e.g. Freezer's 2 remaining uncirculated recordings), chances are you will best find answers in private. P.S. Mr. Page is a hell of a boot collector. If you have an AUD recording that doesn't circulate, he will want it.
Nutrocker
Yeah, what Tom and 3hrs said...people don't like to talk about uncirculating stuff, which begs the question: if you are one of the few with uncirculating recordings in your collection, why mention it at all to anybody if it isn't merely a wind-up? When the dude over at RO contacted me when I asked a question or two about the '77 Indianapolis show, he said he had it, but the guy's attitude was so fucking smug (the typical, "Nah nah nah...I have something YOU don't have!" bit) I'm sorry, I'm 42 fucking years old and don't really have time for those kind of childish games, right? Either put up or shut up. Just don't mention it at all, and then a) you won't have people badgering you with questions about it and -even more importantly- those in cahoots with the bootleggers won't catch wind of it. Some of the bullshit that goes on behind the scenes with some Zeppelin collectors is disgusting, way over the top. Read those Dallas '77 discussions, you'll get a good idea of some of the shit that goes on. Sure, we treasure these things, but at the end of the day they're only tapes. Obladi oblada...The world will continue spinning whether the shows circulate or not. That said, speaking from experience, in hindsight I would have been better off not knowing that there are at least two hoarded 1977 shows...naturally I've wanted them since I heard about 'em! But of course the '77 tour has been my main obsession for lo these many years But sometimes we get lucky and a rabbit gets pulled out of the hat such as that Chicago '75 show, or some of the recent upgrades on old sources we've seen lately. Rock N' Rollin' Man
I only have live bootlegs (digital) from a few bands none of Led Zeppelin but man there are a lot of them. http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/led_zeppelin
