I sure hope to DIO (GOD) that this news of the death of Ronnie James Dio is NOT true. In my opinion, Ronnie James is one of the Greatest singers in Rock and Roll / Heavy Metal history. I had the extreme pleasure of seeing DIO at some small club in East St. Louis, Illinois sometime in the mid 1990's and actually got to shake his hand as he was going around the floor of this small venue singing and walking and shaking hands at the same time.

I will never forget that brief moment because as I was shaking his hand, I screamed to him, "DIO YOU ROCK". This was an obvious reference to His song, "We Rock". He looked at me and smiled.

When I first saw this topic, I had to watch the couple of video links, and I actually began to Tear Up because it is so Sad to read or hear about someone You Love so much Gone forever in body (but not in Spirit). Again, I pray that this news in NOT TRUE.

(By the way, at this same small but Great gig, Dio's drummer, Vinnie Appice, did his drum solo and included about 5 minutes of "Moby Dick" which he incorporated into his drum solo. I remember also being very impressed with that).

"DIO YOU ROCK!!!"...

WoW, Dio in East St. Louis? Not really a metal area, if you know what I mean. Anyway, back on topic, for such a small man in stature, he certainly had a BIG voice. He will certainly be missed when his time here is done.

Now that I am beginning to remember more, technically, the club was in Sauget, Illinois. Sauget was literally right across the "Mighty" Mississippi river (bridge) from downtown St. Louis (MO) to East St. Louis (IL). I know what you mean by saying that East St. Louis not being such a Metal area, because I do believe that is actually not. I think East St. Louis is more known for Ike (and Tina) Turner. Chuck Berry too I believe. (Not to mention the rampant high Drug and Crime rate).

Although I cannot remember the name of this small club where I saw DIO. I do remember that it was within walking distance of two of the most popular Strip Clubs frequented by many a St. Louis resident. Back in the 1990's and still possible to this day, Missouri (at least St. Louis and the surrounding suburbs) did not have Strip clubs or Topless bars. That is why I had to travel at least 25 miles (50 miles round trip) to see Beautiful topless women.

I now live in Plano, Texas, where there are dozens of topless and full "Nudie" bars all over Dallas. I live (again) about 25 miles north of Dallas where I have very good seats to Robert Plant and the Band of Joy at the Meyerson Symphony Hall that is located somewhere in downtown Dallas.

(Again), "DIO YOU ROCK"...

RJD's cancer was announced the same time I found out about my dad's cancer. Dad beat his into remission. I hope this little set back is just a step for him to remission also. Losing rock icons and friends that are from my own generation is a reality check to one's own mortality. Hang in there RDJ!!! You can do it.

He's not dead. It's funny how rumors can spread on the internet so fast -- two other message boards I belong to had similar threads to this one.

Wow. When something like this happens, it always reminds you of how precious life is.

I didn't expect this so soon. He was just interviewed last month and he looked pretty good. He always had great energy, and it seemed like he was far away from death.

I read an interview with him where he said he only eats meat, and doesn't like any fruits or vegetables. Then he got stomach cancer. Just something to think about I guess.

I would be more shocked by this news, but I already read the rumor this morning. Where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

Yeah, his site is blacked out now.

Only an hour or so ago it was still normal.

RIP RJD.

Just read the news on facebook, a really great rock singer..RIP Ronnie and thanks for Stargazer, Gates of Babylon, Heaven and hell, Neon Nights etc, great vocals on everything he did....I met him once in the foyer of a Black sabbath gig I went too but cancelled at last min due to a problem with the stage..was gutted as that was as close to seeing him live vocally, yet he came out the front in the foyer to say sorry and give autograghs etc. He was a true gent. Going to listen to gates of babylon now.
