Arizona's Illegal Immigration Law SB1070

There's been a huge debate since Arizona's governor Jan Brewer signed into law bill SB1070 on April 23.

Some musicians are boycotting the state. here's a link.

It's at the :30 mark if you don't care about chris brown.

There are several other vids out there about the musicians boycotting. I am personally

boycotting any musicians involved in boycotting the state of AZ. I can only hope that

any of my favorite bands don't jump on this bandwagon. so far Hall and Oates, Los Lobos, Nine Inch Nails, several others.

Personally I'm in favor of the law. It is alot less demanding than the current federal law

and the problems this state encounters due to illegal immigration is unacceptable to let it go on and on with nothing additionally being done.

Certainly if the police want to racially profile they can and deny it, but they can do that already. and illegal is illegal.

The federal government may try to sue to stop it. It's been stated to citizens of another country, but not officially to the state of Arizona.

Several thousand people have already left the state in anticipation of the law.

It's going to be very interesting to see where this all goes.

July 29 is the first day the law takes effect.

anyone else following this one?

I'll separate the artist and their political/personal views and continue to enjoy and consume their music.

People do that for Led Zeppelin don't they?

Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck come to mind. Oh and Mike Savage.

Music has alot to do with politics and vica versa. NIN lyrics are very

political so i can't seem to be able to separate the politics from the music some of the

time, but not all of the time.

IMO when the artists personal/political views are so strong that

they would want to do political and financial harm to another who

is only trying to protect the residents of their state, their families

and themselves then it's time to stand up.

I have never gone to the point of walking away from an artist (and I've seen

nine inch nails many times but will never again - i won't turn their song off the radio if

it comes on, but i will never go see them or support them again) for me it's that

important.

Santana is playing July 24. I already got my comp tix from the casino for this one. I will bring a pro-arizona sign, walk up to the stage and place it on the stage with a letter attached explaining why i feel like i do and then leave. Quiet, Peaceful and meaningful.

I'm pretty sure that most of the bands grit their teeth when they hear their music on conservative radio, unless of course they get paid every time they play it, then you won't hear any complaints.

The Pretenders, AC/DC and Metallica must get royalty checks amundo!! B)

Bands get paid everytime their song is played on radio. There's a formula BMI, ASCAP or SESAC uses with their performance rights dealies.

I'm surprised the theme song for Arizona isn't "Immigrant Song" though.

I betcha some talk radio host there's been playing it alot.

Zeppelin didn't really have any political songs other than maybe Night Flight which is about skipping out on the draft.

I think this entire debacle is caused from both the republicans and democrats neglecting the issue for 30 or 40 years now it's gotten to where there is no easy solution.

didn't know about the lyrics to nightflight being about avoiding the draft. Will have to listen to it again.

There is no doubt that you are right about the problem being ignored for so long. Now we're screwed because there is no way to feasibly remove 12 million people from our country. So this 12 mil get in before others waiting in line for years. The illegals not only screw our country, but screw the people still in their own country
