Rock N' Rollin' Man
What, in your opinion, were/are some of the best rhythm sections in rock? Doesn't have to be restricted to rock music. Malcolm Young/Cliff Williams/Phil Rudd.
chef free
Tough to improve on JPJ and John Henry but I've always been really impressed with Queen's Taylor/Deacon. Hot and often overlooked (Mercury and May are quite distracting!) Original Allman Brothers bass player Barry Oakley (B.O.) was great with the Trucks/Jaimoe drum combo too. greenman
Nick Mason/Rick Wright Surely Waters/Mason? either way I'd call them just the opposite of tight and all the more effective for it. My pick would be Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit of Can.....

Electrophile
Surely Waters/Mason? either way I'd call them just the opposite of tight and all the more effective for it. They were very good at doing what I call "tight but loose". Musically, they played each note just enough and with the right amount of pressure to create the right length of sound, but they were also great improvisers live and could really go somewhere in extended jams. Nick Mason is an absurdly underrated drummer. Listen to the work he did on Dark Side for a great example of that.

I agree Masons ability to drive an atmospheric track along with slow drum fills was really unique and a large part of why the Floyds sound was so effective. It really comes down to how you definae "tight" I spose.
Zep 4 Life
Leo Lyons/Ric Lee from Ten Years After. Mitch Mitchell/Noel Redding Billy Cox/Buddy Miles Ulrich/Burton/Hetfield Geddy Lee/Neil Peart Moon/Entwistle I second this notion. Just in reverse order. Its tough to top Moon/Entwistle or Geddy Lee/ Neil Peart. I think Bonham and Jones still take the cake. But these are a good start.

Danny66
Some of my picks: Daisley & Kerslake from Ozzy's original band. Daisley IMO was one of the best rock bassists there was. Listen to Diary & Blizzard; amazing playing from him. Glover & Paice from Deep Purple Doug Pinnick & Jerry Gaskill from King's X Allen Woody & Matt Abts from Gov't Mule Malcom Young, Cliff Williams & Phil Rudd...very hard to beat. Don Henley & Randy Meisner
