I know i know its old news, but some of the stuff is pretty blatant. Black Mountain Side is very funny when you think about it, same exact music as black waterside, yet page gets the only writing credit, and they change the title to black mountain side LOL That would be like someonw doing an instrumental version of stairway to heaven, but giving no writing credit to page and plant, and calling it stairway to hell LOL

It's a legit topic albeit one that has been beat to death. It happened and it's not a secret. Certainly didn't hurt their popularity but it is a bit of a black mark on an otherwise stellar legacy.

It has been beat to death, i apologize for bringing it up again, but there was some stuff in those youtube videos i never knew about, which is why i brought it up again. Had no clue since ive been loving you wasnt 100% original (and very disappointed in that, thats in my top 5 led zep songs, and its my fav page solo which i hope is 100% original!), the hunter part from how many more times is a word for word ripoff, and i knew the lemon song lyrically was killing floor but didnt know they "borrowed" the riff too. And does jimmy really say he never heard the original dazed and confused by jake holmes?? Thats pretty bad.

Some of those examples, I've seen those clips before, are a bit misleading. Without a doubt LZ took credit a few times when it would have been wise not to. But they certainly were't the only musicians to ever use bits and pieces or riffs from songs like Killing Floor, that little sliding 6ths move Sumlin did was recycled many times verbatim by others. Everyone was doing it back then, and still are, the difference is with rare exception few were brazen enough to take a writing credit for things that were obviously someone elses.

There's also a difference between a ripoff and simply quoting another song briefly, as they do with The Hunter.

Agreed, that example seems to be more of a "shout out" than anything else, it's an excerpt in an otherwise different song. Though I think the gripe I've seen with that particular song is the lyric similarity to Wolf's How Many More Years.

OK, you woke me up with the serious discussions, so here we go:

Read all that and then come back and tell us WHAT DO YOU WANT US TO DO?

I never understood this kind of "wow you know that Zep were plagiarists" threads. It's not like OP ask "is it true that...?" . No, the OP already made his mind and wants something from us, but I can't figure out what. To give up to our love for Zeppelin? To burn their albums in the public square? To drop them from all the "greatest" lists?

Not sure if the OP wants anything from anyone but yeah it's old info at this point. Mistakes were made, corrected and everyone moved on long ago. Well except that NFBT is still being credited to P&P on Presence. At least it was last time I held that CD in my hands. Though that's a bit of a different thing since the older version of the song isn't copyrighted, actually I don't think anyone is sure who really wrote it and nobody from Blind Willie Johnson's estate has stepped forward. Not to mention the Zep version is a huge departure from the BWJ song, just a few lyrics and the title are the similarity there. Still it's obvious the idea for the song isn't their own. Personally I think in instances like that it's better to not take credit for it to avoid something like this from happening over and over.
