Gibson's 50 All Time Great Guitar Solos

Recommended Posts

"Machine Gun" is on the professional list...although it is too low at #29.

Yes it was, I missed it. Sorry about that.

Crossroads and Machine Gun are two greatest live solos and they deserve a higher mention. No Quarter and STH from TSRTS are missing though.

..I would include the dueling guitar solo from Thin Lizzy's "Emerald" (Scott Gorham, Brian Downey). Also Deep Purple's "Burn" (Ritchie Blackmore).

Both "Lazy" and "Smoke on the Water" should be higher than "Burn".

But you guys have missed a solo that deserves to be in the top 5 - "Maggot Brain" by Eddie Hazel.

No I didn't...read my post above.

I would've added these:

1) Ten Years Gone - one of Jimmy's finest imo.

I'm with you on this one. Not just the solo itself, but the chord structure underneath it is really beautiful, some of the most beautiful music in rock history. Very underrated, indeed.

laugh.gif This made me laugh really hard for some reason. Maybe it's the fact that I know exactly what you are talking about with EVH. Even though I like his work, he is a little over-worshiped in my opinion.

I enjoy listening to him play as well, but I often recall David Lee Roth's (in)famous comment that "Eddie has been playing the same solo for 11 years" - now it would be something like 31 years. What a solo it is though! :)
