ThelegendaryZepp
An absolute superb performance tonight that i will never forget...ever! Jason Bonhams Led Zeppelin experience was exactly that, an experience. I will never forget this moment... I just saw the greatest concert of my life! I am 19 years old so i did not grow up with led zeppelin but il be damned i knew every song ever word every note the whole night. The crowd was very controlled which was great because it slowly built in energy. I honestly don't know why i made this topic but i guess i just wanted to share this with u guys considering this the only live zep i will ever see. \and yes i said zep not tribute band which it definitely was not. It ain't Led Zeppelin and it never will be. It's Jason's TRIBUTE to his father and his father's band. Deal with it, they are a good covers band. ThelegendaryZepp
Yes I realize that they are a cover band. Im not dumb. Christ ud think u were jealous or something lol. Nothing u say will change that. And u call urself a zep head your an idiot fire starter.

Glad you enjoyed it, hopefully he'll take it on the road and even over here to Oz. Zep head for 40 years and still going strong! What fire? You were the one who said it was a Led Zeppelin gig? And what's with the puerile name calling?
ThelegendaryZepp
I didnt mean to swar at you reggie. I just didnt think i needed to be told it was a cover band. Im not dumb just very emotional right now. I feel like i will never top that show i saw tonight. Try not to take every word someone says literally. This band was tighter than zeppelin was 77 thru 80 imo. At the end when we were all leaving our seats everyone was looking and thinking in awe. McSeven
I was at the Winiipeg show. It was great. The last two bands I saw waw Iron Maiden and Aerosmith. As much as I like them. Led Zeppelin music is my baby and first love. I almost fell asleep at IM/Aerosmith and I had better sleep. I only had 3 hrs of sleep going into JBLZE. Every song captivated me. Not so much in an exciting way, but emotional. The one song that brought tears to my eyes was Thank You, which I don't like in the sense its Zeppelin too sweet. I don't have it on my I-pod and I skip it when I listen to LZ2. I don't know why I was mysty eyed. I am not a crier. I think its because Jason not only lost his Father he lost his Hero, who was not taking good care of himself and was careless. I love Bonzo and Jason. I can see that this is an emotional journey for him. I don't think its a cash cow at all. The songs they played were.... Rock and Roll Celebration Day I can't quite you Babe Babe I'm gonna leave you Dazed and Confused Your time is gonna come Thank you Moby Dick Good times bads times Over the Hills and Far away The Ocean I'm gonna crawl When the levee breaks Stairway to Heaven Kashmir Imigrant song Whole Lotta Love I loved all the songs. The ones that really stood out to me were. WTLB/K/WLL/DC/IS. If the JBLZE is coming to your town. Go see it. Even if your not a Zep fan, its good times all around. All the players were great. This was not a paint by the numbers show. It was a a son proping up his Hero.

Even though I'll probably never get to see this show since I live in New Zealand I can't say I agree with your 77 through 80 comment. Granted, there are some shockers from those years but I'm listening to June 11th 1977 at the moment. VERY hot show. For starters John Henry Bonham was still alive and playing the drums like he'd never played them before. There are plenty of tight performances in '77 and 1980. You just have to find them. I hate to dissagree but that my friend is wrong by many accounts especially jimmy page's. He knows they were sloppy then which is exactly why none of it was chronicled on the led dvd. Knebworth is the 1 exception but even that show had to many rusty performances to be viewd as essential. I am now going to explain why in my opinion of course. A tight performance doesn't have long noodling which is what those years had on every setlist they played. 77 had no quarter which lasted far too long to be interesting and exciting. at 30 minutes they are just killing time. Dazed was like that in 75 which could last seemingly forever. And then theres 1980 which was filled shorter performances and they cut the extended crap...for good reason. But they also kept white summer black mountain side, which sounded terrible by that time. That song was always meant to be improvisational but my god in 1980 it is unlikeable. Then there are songs like trampled underfoot in 80 which may not be 20+ minutes but it sure feels like it. At 9 minutes that riff is annoying. Anyway for good zeppelin u have to be picky and picky i am tom kid. I do have plenty of shows from these years mainly the best sounding ones. If there is 1 thing i would have never cut if i was in the band it would have been their amazing acoustic set. That was simply missed in 80. Il also point out that the band had enormous egos in the later days. This resulted in less practice for concerts.

ThelegendaryZepp
Alright tom kid il give u the benefit of the doubt as i don't have that1. But my point still stands.I also bet u can't say the same for the rest of that show. Even the greatest show from 77-80 is rubbish compared to there greatest in 70-73. And i mean show not 1 song. I do however collect bootlegs for better versions as u probably do.Tho In my humble opinion jimmy page already gave us the greatest live zepp show, How the west was won. Btw im not trying to fight i actually love talking to fellow zep heads...makes my life seem normal. If u want a wicked version of no quarter look no further than the 2007 reissue of TSRTS. It sounds like it was recorded yesterday and u may or may not like that page removed 1;50 some odd from the drum/organ part before pages solo. I know we dont see eye to eye but i do appreciate the input i really do.

However I would say that the rest of the 23-6-77 show is up there with the best, it's legendary as well as the rest of the '77 LA forum run. I've got the 2007 re-issue, however I still believe the original soundtrack version is the best, even if the sound quality isn't as good. I'm bias in regards to '77 anyways, being my favourite tour and all. Edited October 21, 2010 by tom kid
ThelegendaryZepp
Yea i think it all depends on how long you have owned the original soundtrack and how much it means to you. For me being only 19 means i did not grow up in the 70s, but i did grow up with led zeppelin my father made sure of that lol. I own both version as well and i was surprised of all the new edits but from what i have read this new version is actually closer to the original concert. The old 1 is the album that was edited ALOT. I dont mind editing, just letting u know that u could be listening to a fabricated zep show. Mind you all zeppelin releases since bonzo died have been extremely edited for perfection. I think what really makes a good live album is the feel and sound quality. If its not loud enough it doesnt feel right to me. That was my understanding of the original...just not loud enough to feel live. You know when i got my hands on bbc sessions i thought hey this is amazing there are some real zeppelin gems here. I then wondered where and when it was recorded... well to my dismay that album is a bunch of songs from 69 and 71. A good release but they did cut out a few songs again lol. ThelegendaryZepp
Oh i also like the 77 tour as a whole. It was a dark tour filled with interesting stuff the band either hadnt played in years, band would never play again, and of course presence material.
