Led Zeppelin...

I Love Led Zeppelin and Their Music. I also love certain actors and actresses and their movies. I would like to know what famous Hollywood personas that you think or might know of that any of the members of Led Zeppelin might have met or possibly met. I am talking about the early years from 1968 to the very present day. Anybody have any knowledge (or heresay) of Jimmy, Robert, John Paul and Bonzo meeting any movie stars? I do not mean other musicians because I know that they have met (and influenced) hundreds of other musicians then and now. I guess this topic is really about Led Zeppelin and Hollywood.

For example, Robert Plant has recently been on the late night show with Jimmy Fallon. I watched and DVR'd all three times Robert was on his show. Other guests on those nights that Robert was on included Christina Ricci, Tina Fey, Colin Hanks, Blythe Danner and Jeff Bridges. I would logically have to assume that Robert Plant at least met (possibly) briefly all five of these persons backstage in the "Green Room". I know that Robert and Jeff Bridges have something in common. Both colloborated with T.Bone Burnett. I would bet that they talked about this amongst themselves. So there is that. (Remember this is pure speculation on my part).

We all know that Jimmy is a bit more introverted and private. However, he did do the soundtrack for Death Wish II. He could have possibly met Charlie Bronson during that time. Also Jimmy bought residences of both Richard Harris and Michael Caine. Whether Jimmy met them or not I do not know, however, I am sure that both actors knew who Jimmy Page was since all three are English and Jimmy payed a good sum of British pounds to acquire these residences.

Jonesy is (I think) more introverted and private then Jimmy. Any Hollywood persons he may have met in his lifetime is harder for me to acknowledge although I am sure he has met his share so far in his brilliant lifetime.

Bonzo, we all know was the Greatest Drummer of all-time. He was the complete opposite of Jimmy and Jonesy. A complete extrovert and madman. I can picture Bonzo partying with anyone, famous or not, when Led Zeppelin were in Los Angeles or New York (or anywhere else for that matter).

I have a few more of Led Zeppelin and Hollywood celebrities that I could name but I would like to see and read any more on this topic that YOU might know. Remember, unless it is factually accurate (or even inaccurate), any reply is welcome.

Interesting topic. Here's what I can add at the moment:

March 27, 1975 The Forum in Inglewood, CA: Led Zeppelin's stage introduction announcement was made by adult film star Linda Lovelace.

May 26, 1976 Heathrow International Airport: Flight arrival from Los Angeles…Led Zeppelin and comedian Peter Cook enraged actor Telly Savalas on this flight with catcalls.

I own a copy of Michael Caine's autobiography, 'What's It All About?", and while he mentions selling Old Mill House to Jimmy he doesn't specifically mention meeting him.

So far as I know neither Death Wish II director Michael Winner (Jimmys neighbor in Kensington) nor Jimmy ever specifically mentioned his having met Charles Bronson, as filming was completed before he began work on the soundtrack.

Robert / Strange Sensation show in Biloxi Mississippi

Jude Law was backstage talking to Robert afterwards. ( I know this because I was there too)

And also it was famously in the news because that was the night Jude sh***ed the nanny!

.......From my ROCK Magazine Nov'77 Edition:

"Several celebrities were in attendance in New York's Madison Square Garden - ....the most noticeable was Ms. Linda Blair, star of The Exorcist, and Exorcist II: The Heretic. Linda, who it seems has a real fancy for rock stars (her current boyfriend is an up-and-coming musician, and she has been seen in the company of Jim Dandy and others), was dressed to kill. She could be seen behind the backstage barrier, walking back and forth, always with a big smile across her lovely face, wearing what one reporter described as "ass-hugging" blue slacks, a light blue, see-through blouse "that showed off a lot of cleavage," and 5-inch black stiletto heels."

Steve,

I am working from memory here, but I recall Groucho Marx being at one of the Swansong launch parties in the US. Also, Michelle Phillips was in attendance at one of them (probably LA). She was ostensibly a singer, but she did do some acting work in the US.

The late John Bindon was also an actor in the UK, mainly in tough guy roles - the details of which will be in his biography.

There was an actor in the UK, the late Gary Holt, who appeared in a television series called 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet' . He socialised with LZ at a South Kensington boutique hotel called 'Blakes'. Mr Holt was apparently treated badly by Bonzo on one such visit, and this lead to LZ issuing a public apology to GH, something which was previously unheard of for Zep.

Michael Caine released a new autobiography this year 'Elephant to Hollywood' where he goes into much more detail of his own ownership of The Mill House.

Michael Winner released another book this year. I do not know if MW makes any reference to JPP because I have not had the time to look at the book. Although this is slightly off-topic, I am including here an article in the UK Daily Mail where MW was asked to write his own obituary. MW makes reference to his wish that his house be left to the nation as a museum. Now, that would mean that JPP could end up with a stream of visitors to the house next door to his own. But from this article, it would appear that the council are now not so interested in the offer of his property, because it is debatable whether MW will leave enough to pay for the upkeep of the mansion. So Jimmy may yet be saved from the inevitable intrusion of umpteen visitors next door,

I am off to have a think and see if I am able to remember anything else. This thread was a very good topic for discussion.

Well, if we're going to include UK (non-Hollywood) actors and actresses there are quite a few more possibilities given Peter Grant himself worked as an actor in the 60s, appearing in various televsion programs and films.

Here are few more Led Zeppelin and Hollywood celebrities that I have read about:

During the 1975 tour in New York City, actress Faye Dunaway was reported to be running around the hotel and gigs taking pictures of the band.

I also read somewhere that Robert Plant hung out with Richard Pryor back when Zeppelin were touring Los Angeles during the 1977 North American tour.

In one of my old ZOSO magazines there was a picture of Jimmy and a smiling Rob Lowe backstage at some outdoor festival. I don't know (or cannot remember) what festival it was or even if Jimmy was performing there.

In one of Dave Lewis' books, A Celebration, I believe, there is a mention that Jack Nicholson and Richard Gere attended and were backstage at a Page/Plant show in Los Angeles in 1995.

SAJ,

I hadn't read the thread topic properly and should have seen that it was Hollywood actors - I was writing late last night UK time and had been out celebrating Xmas early (lots of booze consumed!). But as you know, I am keen to share any Zep related knowledge /resources which I may have with fellow fans.:)

In the 'drummer' episode of the recent BBC series called 'I'm In a Rock n' Roll Band' Jason Bonham talked about his dad Bonzo hanging out with actors Peter Sellers and Oliver Reed during a pub crawl in the south of France while on holiday. Here is the clip:

I would like to add to this topic:

Given the most recent events regarding Led Zeppelin and the Kennedy Center Honors, I would like to assume that the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin met Jack Black, Robert De Niro and obviously, Mr. Dustin Hoffman and David Letterman. Not to forget Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Ray Romano (who gave a brief, but Heartfelt mention of what Led Zeppelin meant to Him growing up). Above all, since I am Loyal and Proud American, the President and First Lady of the United States of America.

I would Love to have been there, front-stage and back-stage to see all the "Hero-Worship" and "Praise" that all this Great talents of Movies and Television gave to the Greatest Talents in Rock and Roll History. Just seeing and thinking this makes my Eyes tear up.

"Long Live the Mighty Led Zeppelin". Your Music will Live on for Eternity!!!
