TypeO Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Isn't Tripoli in N. Africa or did they move it? Yep, Tripoli, Libya. I figure Libya is right next to Egypt, so that's close enough to tag along on the middle east bandwagon. Quote

lzzoso Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I would not want to thank the Middle East for anything. That whole region has been the cause of major problems not only for the United States of America but for most of the World in general. Do I have to mention the Munich 1972 Summer Olympics, the 1973 OPEC oil embargo, the 1979 Iran Hostage crisis, the first World Trade Center bombings, the U.S embassy attacks in Kenya and Tanzania, the attack on the USS Cole and of course Septemner 11, 2001 (9/11). So instead of thanking the Middle East, I say Fuck You Middle East. Quote

The best reply on this topic their is.I could not give a damn about all the alleged contributions to civilisation of this part of the world from day one, what does it give the world today?Every middle eastern country, bar Israel,is a backwards looking third world s***hole.Look around your home of business, bar the cheap shirt you are wearing what has been produced in the middle east?Nothing. All this region gives to the world is chaos and the repression of its own people and if it had its way, they would spread it to the west,or if you like the civilised world,as well.Good luck to Israel and just thank the stars we don't all have the neighbours they have. Electrophile Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 What a tolerant, and not at all bigoted or prejudiced response. I guess you're totally unaware of the fact that all parts of the world and all civilizations, not just those in the Middle East, have started wars, killed many people, repressed and oppressed people, and many other completely abhorrent things. But hey, why let facts get in the way of your ignorance, right? That post reminds me why I don't venture into this part of the site very rarely anymore. Quote

Electrophile Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Very interesting!! I'm really surprised that you know Kushari which is my favorite food I'll try nearly any kind of cuisine once. A couple of years ago, a bunch of friends and I were having a pot luck dinner party, and a mutual friend of my then-boyfriend was Egyptian, and brought some traditional Egyptian food. Of course it looked and smelled great, so we all dived in, and it was the first bowl of food to be emptied. BTW, Walesdad.....quit embarrassing yourself. If it wasn't for Middle Eastern culture, there's a whole lot of stuff we Westerners use that we wouldn't have. Do yourself a favor and open up a book sometime and read about it. No one is arguing that things are hunky-dory over there right now, and that it's a veritable utopia of bliss and sunshine, but you know something? The same could be said of basically everywhere else on this gottverdamnt rock, and thinking anything else is just ignorant. Being grateful for the contributions made in the past doesn't also mean you ignore the problems of the present. Quote
