Jimmy Page-Same Outfit for last US show '77 and Firm Video

I noticed this years ago but thought it would make a cool thread. Jimmy wore the same exact outfit at the last US show in Oakland 7-24-77 and in the The Firm's video for Radioactive-1985. Except in the Radioactive video he doesn't wear sun glasses and at the Oakland show he doesn't wear the white scarf. I have included a link to the video on youtube and a few pics from the 2nd Oakland '77 show-which was the last last show in the US.

I actually own a copy of this pic- I bought it from Rick Barrett at a Houston record show back in 1986.

That's correct, David. I call that his "Butterfly Coat". It seems it was first worn in 1977 then worn on & offstage during the US ARMS tour in December 1983. If you search "Butterfly Coat" you'll see some ARMS tour photos I posted in the Photo Forum.

I show the promotional video for Radioactive was directed by Aubrey Powell and filmed in New York on October 12, 1985.

He also wore the' Butterfly Coat' at the first Chicago show on 1-20-75. I have all 4 of the Neal Preston books- the first from 1983- I sent off thru the mail and Neal signed and numbered it- I think min eis like 1067 out of 2000. Anyway they have one or two pics labeled as Minneapolis 1975 but I have my doubts as he also in all 4 books labels the stormtrooper chicago show '77 as the 7th whne it has been showsn to be no doubt the 10th of April. The outfit Jimmy is wearing in said pic from Minneapolis is the same as the Chicago 1-21-75 show- the shirt with kinda pinkish trim and darker main part. With pinkish pants. The one that is also available on the 8mm video.

Seriously? That's news to me. Please post a photo if you can.

ok Steve my books are all in totes in storage at the moment  but I found the 2 pics I remember being labeled as Minneapolis 1975- the first show for the US tour.

The first pic below at corbis is now listed as Chicago which I now know is the correct date. But the second photo I am not sure. I am thinking it is the 3rd Chicago show on the 22nd of January. As under the white jacket you can see that black cowboy lookiing shirt Jimmy wore at several '75 shows.

this is def from one of the chicago 75 shows.....purchased a number of these from a private photographer back in the early 80s.....unpublished

i will be able to scan and post more with a def date but it's going to take me a while to get my hands on them again

pp.jpg

that would not appear to be the butterfly jacket....however

Unconfirmed but that looks like it could have been taken by Laurence Ratner, who published the Live Dreams photo book.

Yes I have that Live Dreams book and it is interesting in that pic- Jimmmy is wearing that jacket with the silver on it- at the end of the show on the encores- that is during Whole lotta LOve above and is from the second Chicago showon the 21st of January. The Butterfly Coat is the night before and the black cowboy shirt is the 3rd night below.

Here is an another shot from the show you posted.

Steve these are always labeled as Minneapolis also-but I think they are Chicago 1-21-75

I know that Neil Preston took these. He said they were Minneapolis 1/18/75. Plus Page wore the same outfit multiple times on tour; sometimes the same one the next day. so that's evidence that they would be from Minneapolis.

Return of the Killer Butterfly Coat (Steve those actually look like Hummingbirds) :P

London- Rainbow Theatre 2-14-75

- Roy Harper's Valentine's Day Concert

Yeah, those are Hummingbirds so that isn't the Butterfly Coat:

My eyes are dry been up a long time  -they do look similar though. I scrolled back up- I think he is wearing the hummingbird one at the Chicago 1975 show and the Oakland '77 and Firm video is the Butterfly one like the '83 ARMS one you linked up.

He wore the hummingbird shirt in Dec '74 (London) & Jan '75 (Chicago) and the butterfly coat in Jul '77 (Oakland), Dec '83 (ARMS tour) & Oct '86 (Radioactive video).

This is from Jan. 21st 1975, the second Chicago show. It is not a Ratner shot.. But that Jacket is the one a fan threw up on stage at the encore. There are some Ratner shots of it, and it also appears in the video footage from that show. .

This is Jan. 21st, '75 in Chicago. He didn't wear that shirt on the 20th or 22nd. Robert, on the other hand, wore the same shirt every night.. (did it get cleaned?)

Given the band were staying each night at the Ambassador East hotel in Chicago it should have been easy to get their clothing cleaned.

As a rule, it is easy for a band to have their stage clothes cleaned even if they are on a tour bus/plane. They are given to the runner at each venue in enough time to have them washed/dry cleaned that day and returned to the band in time for the show.

As an aside Jimmy let my mate try on his butterfly coat after The Firm's Edinburgh show in 1985. He said it looked great on her but wouldn't let her keep it ;)

I've read that his poppy suit in '77 was hardly ever washed, it was just left to hang up with sweat dripping off it.

Yeah I've read that too :) Sounds err...........nice. Some materials do require specialist handling of course :)
