I also labored under the misconception that this was some sort of privately built one-off job. Then I found the company that does it. It's like 5 grand and you supply the guitar. Initial reviews were generally positive, with a few complaints regarding the auto-tuning knob slipping off: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_Robot_Guitar I am most amazed by the fact that it uses the actual frequency of the string to tune so that even the strings that are not changed in the alternate tuning self-adjust themselves to the minute changes that changing the other strings has upon them.
