I have seen Jimmy use this thing and never really understood what was going on. I also labored under the misconception that this was some sort of privately built one-off job. Then I found the company that does it. It's like 5 grand and you supply the guitar. Perhaps this is old hat to you kids, but I found this utterly mindblowing. Oh to have unlimited guitar cash.

Gibson actually started a run of self-tuning guitars a couple of years ago. Initial reviews were generally positive, with a few complaints regarding the auto-tuning knob slipping off:

I am most amazed by the fact that it uses the actual frequency of the string to tune so that even the strings that are not changed in the alternate tuning self-adjust themselves to the minute changes that changing the other strings has upon them. It is just a fascinating bit of technology.
