New Immigrant Song Cover

Recommended Posts

Has anyone heard the new Immigrant Song cover for the upcoming USA release of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" movie?

It's a edgy and raw version with Karen O (The Yeah Yeah Yeahs) on vocals and Trent Reznor (NIN) on various instrumentals and effects

as well as producer for the soundtrack of the movie.

Blasphemy. I have never liked Trent Reznor/NIN as I think his music was just trying to copy the sound of groups like Front 242 and Skinny Puppy. Also derivative is Karen O and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs as she has obviously ripped off the likes of Dale Bozzio and the Missing Persons. So no, I don't care for this cover! Two of the worst people in my opinion to be covering Led Zeppelin.

I'm sure the video is there somewhere. Saw it a couple of days ago. Might want to use the particular film studio in your search as they may have their own YT channel and have the trailer there. Also might want to check the film's official website too.

I clicked on the link and was brought right to the video...must be a local thing. Go to www.people.com and do a search for the girl with the dragon tattoo video.

The cover song is not for everyone I agree. But it does have a modern and ominous feel to it so it is what it is, not Zep but interesting none the less.

Neither Karen O or Trent Reznor are my thing but at least they add their own flavor to it. What would be the use of doing a straight cover of it anyway? Far too many artists do that and I've never seen the point. Why even do a cover if you aren't going to add your own twist to it?

Agreed! Well said.

I like it! It's dark like the original but more modern. It has an edginess to it. I always like it when modern artists do Zeppelin as long as they keep it rock and roll and this is difinately rock and roll. It opens up Zeppelins music to a new generation and it just shows how relevant Zeppelin was and still is.

My problem isn't so much with the song so much as WHY does there need to be a US remake of the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" to begin with?

There was a perfectly FINE trilogy of Swedish films done of the Stieg Larsson books already in 2009: "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"; "The Girl Who Played with Fire"; and "The Girl Who Kicked a Hornet's Nest".

All starring the AWESOME Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander.

It's just like with the fabulous "Let the Right One In", a marvelous 2008 Swedish vampire movie adapted from the book of the same name, with amazing atmosphere and acting by the two child lead actors. Then in 2010, you had the US remake, subpar and ridiculously titled "Let Me In".

Even if you don't speak foreign languages, it's not THAT difficult to read subtitles.

i actually like it, fits the mood of this movie and is a totally unique take on it. If you don't like it, just throw in Zep III and forget about it cool.gif

That's one way to overcome this, if you don't like the new version. I happen to like it.

Money, Strider. That's what drives Hollywood.

I agree with you. Why make a sh*t sandwich when a perfectly delicious cheeseburger has been made to enjoy.

Although, it could wind up being a sh*t sandwich in the end, when the right combination of ingredients aren't present.

I totally agree with you two. Hollywood is all about money and commercialism and I'm really getting sick of it but I have to say that there are still some pretty good films. The cast and the crew are good so it might not turn out to be so bad.

Why are 'they' doing this?

Does anyone know how this works? Is it Jimmy or Robert or John Paul who decide about the fact that their songs may be covered/used , or is it the record company that hold the rights?

I mean, Led Zeppelin is pretty strict with these kind of things, right?

But lately Led Zeppelin comes up in all kinds of shitty movies and covers (Sucker Punch, Girl with dragon tattoo, John Carter etc)

It's horrible

It's better than anything Kiss has done. :D

How do you know "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is going to suck? Have you seen it? The Swedish adaptations were very good...so good that I thought an American remake was superfluous. But I have to admit, after seeing the trailer to the David Fincher vetsion, I am intrigued enough to want to see it. For starters, besides being directed by David Fincher, who directed my favourite movie of last year, "The Social Network", the American "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" features a helluva cast: Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Rooney Mara, Stellan Starsgard.

And the screenplay is by Steven Zaillian, who has written a few good films in his time.

The thing I am most curious about is whether the American version hews closer to the original Stieg Larsson book or to the movie. For one thing I liked about the Swedish movie adaptations was that they eliminated some of the more annoying parts of the books.
