Led Zeppelin and the Golden Age of the Music Press

July 4, 2011 - A man who not only interviewed the most famous bands of the 60s and 70s but quite often toured with them and, occasionally, appeared onstage with them, is coming to Harrogate to tell some classic rock tales.

Chris Welch, one of the key writers for Melody Maker and ex-editor of Metal Hammer magazine, will be revealing his secrets at Harrogate Theatre on Saturday, July 23.

Also famous for books about acts such as Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Genesis, Cream, Def Leppard, Yes, Paul McCartney and more, Chris will give a talk entitled Led Zeppelin and the Golden Age of the Music Press in the theatre's circle bar at 6pm before a live show by 70s band Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.

There is no famous star of the 1960s and 1970s Welch wasn't friends with and he will be sharing his private archive of photographs with the the audience. There are sure to be some fascinating stories. Who knows, he might even reveal whether the legend of Led Zeppelin and the shark was true or not?

This special event is part of Harrogate International Festival Fringe and follows last year's successful visit by fellow music critic David Stubbs who writes for The Wire magazine, The Guardian and more. Tickets/entry cost £4 each from www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk or 01423 502 116.

This would be an interesting evening.Memories from a respected music journo who told the stories as they were, not the hazy drug fuelled remembrances of people with their own axe to grind.Or the fine lines of fact and fiction that have become blurred.

But,just one thing........Led Zeppelin and the Golden Age of the Music Press?
