Thanks for the link, brother :) Honestly, I didn't know any of this - I knew about the Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich influence on Bonham but not this. I'm going to send your link and the vid over to my friend to see what she (a female drummer) has to say. ;)

Yes, Jimmy was wearing that outfit the first time I saw the band (although I wasn't at the show itself). He did have a beard (and similar hair) in September 1971, the first time I saw the band perform, but he was wearing a different outfit. ;) I don't know if Jimmy's site will highlight anything else from the 1971 N.A. tour but I would be curious to know if and what Jimmy remembers from the MSG show (Scott Muni introducing the band, the stage cracking, Robert trying to quiet the crowd for STH, the ovation after STH was played, Robert bouncing up and down on stage, the fans trying to clamor on stage, the girl next to us fainting and her friend yelling "Girl fainted!, Girl fainted!" over and over again above the noise of the crowd).

Yes, you are absolutely correct ! His atire was different in 71 . Hair a little longer too. Also, in the main photo that was on the site that day, it shows Robert sporting his beard which he had lost by the time the 71NA tour had begun. Like you, I also hope that we get more dates associated with the very eventful 71 tour. The band was full of life crowds were electric and stages all over North America were being threatened :D

I loved the '71 tour! Of all the LZ shows I saw, the '71 show I attended and ones I saw in '72 will always be my personal favorites, musically and otherwise. Probably my favorite crowds too. ;)

On this day… 23 Aug 1966

The Yardbirds play The Casino Ballroom, Avalon, Catalina Island

On this day in 1966, The Yardbirds played Catalina Island. The equipment was ferried across and the band arrived by sea plane. We were surprised to find some Jordan amplifiers had been set up at the venue instead of our own amplifiers. This proved to be quite problematic because we had to play through new amplifiers for the show instead of our regular amplification, which had not been brought to the island. They couldn't handle the dynamics electrically that we had been used to with our own equipment. Somebody made the decision about the Jordan Amps but they never owned up.

Interesting statement (if it was written by Jimmy).

I don't think Jimmy writes it. This is just conjecture on my part, but the Nico page especially made me think that the person writing it may be a non-native English speaker -- I don't mean that as an insult at all. I just don't think someone whose first language is English would say "I routined with Nico..."

The On This Day features are almost certainly third-party transcriptions/embellishments of audiotapes or other reference materials. There's just no way Jimmy would repeatedly mispell Alexis Korner's last name, for example.

While I don't think Jimmy is sitting at his computer typing out the daily updates and emailing them to his web company, I do think he has/has had (either directly or indirectly through his staff, including his close family and friends) some level of involvement with the site. I feel Jimmy has been too careful with his image to allow someone wide and broad latitude to cull through reference material and select what posts and comments are made on his behalf on his official site.

I don't think the errors I've seen are the result of a problem with the English language. I don't know who is updating Jimmy's site on a daily basis but both the Deeson Group and Acquia are reputable firms and having Jimmy Page's account would, I think, be important to them. I still think "routined" is something Jimmy might say (either as a musician or as someone who has in the past has sometimes used more "archaic" expressions or words). Assuming the person who updates Jimmy's site is English (whether a native or non-native speaker of the language), I think this person would know the difference between muse and mews.

Lastly, I really don't want to go round with you and Steve about Jimmy's site and his level of involvement with it, especially because these are our (yours, mine, Steve's) individual opinions. I am enjoying Jimmy's site, as are my friends, and we look forward to his daily updates and sharing and talking about them.

Well, perhaps they wish to remain reputable and for that reason don't mention their involvement with Jimmy's on their own.

Someone pointed out his site was registered way back in 2007, further underscoring it's relative lack of importance to them.

Anyway, I too have enjoyed some of the On This Day features that were meticously developed by their West Indian interns.
