I checked the prototype for the new Gibson Number Two Les Paul

On this day in 2009, I checked a prototype from Gibson, along with my guitar tech Lionall and Steve Hoyland (who did the original custom wiring), for what was a soon to be released Number Two Les Paul.

The original had been customised to allow new routing of the pickups by splitting the coils to employ new configurations, with two push-button switches attached to the scratchplate and push-pull adaptation to the volume and tone controls. This gave more variety of tone and out of phase settings.

This edition came out in January 2010 and sold out immediately!

I played the Heartbreak Hotel in San Antonio, Ibiza with Safe Sex

Record exec and pal Phil Carson had a club in San Antonio, Ibiza named the 'Heartbreak Hotel' and he gave me the opportunity to do a set which included Mike Thompson on vocals, Dennis De Bass on bass and Jason Bonham on drums. I named the band Safe Sex because it was sexy but it wasn't that safe! And it was Ibiza! Unfortunately, Heartbreak Hotel was so new to the San Antonio area, that the lonely street had not yet appeared on any maps and the club was operating without a working telephone. Even still, the club was full and we had a blast. Jason and I were to team up two years later for my Outrider project.

SETLIST

1. I JUST WANNA MAKE LOVE TO YOU

2. TABACCO ROAD

3. INSTRUMENTAL

4. BABY PLEASE DON'T GO

5. WHITE SUMMER

6. LUCILLE

7. HEARTBREAK HOTEL

8. MONEY

One thing to clarify.... (Especially for the US audience....)

San Antonio, is not San Antonio, Tx., but is on an island off Spain, Ibiza (which I had not really heard of until today....) As far as I can tell, there is not now a club named Heartbreak Hotel in San Antonio. http://www.digitalibiza.com/listing

Any idea what song clip was featured on this entry? Missed this one since it was quite late being posted on JP's site.

I played Montreux with Led Zeppelin

On this day in 1971, Led Zeppelin played the Montreux Casino, the first of two nights. The casino in Montreux was always a joy to play, with the warm generous hospitality of Claude Nobs, musicologist, bon viveur and host of the jazz festival. The setlist shows a good balance of the band's recording career up to that point and we jammed some spirited blues numbers at the end of the set to complete the picture.

Immigrant Song

Heartbreaker

Since I've Been Loving You

Black Dog

Dazed and Confused

Stairway to Heaven

Going to California

That's the Way

Celebration Day

What Is and What Should Never Be

Whole Lotta Love (Let that Boy Boogie, That's Alright Mama, Ramble On, Gamblers Blues, I'm a Man, Honey Bee etc)

Weekend
