[August 11, 2011] Stars turn out for Somalia aid campaign LOS ANGELES, Aug 10, 2011 (dpa - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Stars including Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, U2 and David Beckham have joined a new Save the Children campaign to combat the famine threatening millions of people in Somalia and elsewhere in East Africa. Other artists who have pledged support for the "I'm Gonna Be Your Friend" initiative include Eminem, Rihanna, Britney Spears, David Beckham, Kanye West, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Muhammad Ali, Muse, Coldplay, Elton John, Lewis Hamilton, Bruno Mars, Robert Plant, Cristiano Ronaldo, Brian May and Sting, according to the relief organization. In what Save the Children called "a ground-breaking social media campaign" the participating artists are featuring a film about the crisis on their Facebook and Twitter pages. More than 50 stars with more than 600 million followers on Facebook and Twitter have already joined the campaign, which kicked off Tuesday. With tie-ins also in place with Universal Music, Yahoo, AOL and YouTube, the film will be exposed to a global audience of more than 1 billion people, according to Save the Children. The short movie was created by award-winning director Kevin MacDonald (The Last King of Scotland) and includes harrowing images of the starving population set to the Bob Marley track High Tide or Low Tide. In addition to raising awareness about the plight of people in East Africa, the campaign hopes to raise money for food, water and medicine through paid downloads of the film on iTunes and Bob Marley's Facebook page. "The crisis is getting worse by the day, and millions of children are facing starvation," Save the Children President Carolyn Miles said. "We can stop this happening. But we need to act now. Every day counts. Please help us by downloading this powerful single, and let's stop this catastrophe getting any worse." SuperDave
Great thing Robert and the rest are doing. Hopefully, the proceeds will end up where it should, especially when you consider how corrupt Somalia is, when you basically have rebels and terrorists controlling the country. Nothing's sadder than having all these people raise money for a good cause and then having the money not end up in the right hands.

This is why a number of prominent artists would not participate in Live Aid back in '85.
planted
Yes, these are fine human beings who could be doing anything with their money. How are the proceeds going to arrive in down town Mogadishu? De ja vu anyone?
