Should I buy remastered albums?

I was wondering if you could provide some advice, I've been reading reviews about remastered albums, a good share of the opinions are against buying them, saying they are two loud and the sound is "flat" with no real distinction between the voice and the instruments being played. For example, I'm analyzing whether to buy Jeff Buckley's 1994 issue or the 2004 remaster? And with so many remasters coming in the horizon like Nirvana's, U2's Zooropa... I don't know if it's a good idea to buy that, in terms of improvements to the sound. Thank you for your help.

I think the best thing to do is a Google search for reviews about specific remasters you're interested in. Opinions really vary on them. Personally speaking I'm sick to death of everything being elevated to ear bleed levels and I've given up trying to buy new remasters on CD because of this.

Everything I've read about that Jeff Buckley album you've mentioned has mostly said to avoid the 2004 reissue. I haven't listened to it though.

Good luck.

I think it depends on what they try to do with it to remaster it. As long as they don't get all George Lucas with them, I am usually ok with it. Sometimes it sounds amazing. Other times, it's just making the music louder and not adding anything quality wise.

It's so tough to keep up with all of them that I have not even bothered. That's just me though.
