Independent record stores disappearing like snow from the French Alps!

This time is Bleecker Bob's in Greenwich Village, closing down at the end of April -guess what they're opening a Starbucks, like there weren't enough already in the city

"Bleecker Bob’s, which began as Village Oldies Records in 1968, on Bleecker Street, and moved to two other locations before ending up at No. 118, had many rock ’n’ roll moments. Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin’s guitarist, tended the register there occasionally, as did Frank Zappa, according to employees, who said both musicians were friends with Bob Plotnick, the store’s owner."

On August 26, 1967 Jimmy allegedly purchased a copy of 'The Above Ground Sound of Jake Holmes' from Bleecker Bob's after Jim McCarty had played 'I'm Confused' for him from his copy.

Jake Holmes (as well as The Youngbloods) had opened for The Yardbirds at the Village Theater the day before. Chris Dreja claims he had attended Jake Holmes opening for Janis Ian at the Cafe a Go-Go earlier that month and enthusiastically decided at that time that The Yardbirds should record 'I'm Confused'...which ultimately became 'Dazed And Confused'.
