I voted STH though ALS is great too but it's not as melodic. Tea For One should have been an option as well.

All good choices but I voted other.

I quite like the solos in Tangerine and Thank You the best acoustic solo I've ever heard so on any given day either / or.

I could have gone for Tangerine ( absolutely love it ) but I decided to go with the one that kind of defined my youth ...Heartbreaker !

BTW, Mrs Ally is not buying that

My favorite is probably his moving solo during I'm Gonna Crawl.

I also love his solos on:

Since I've Been Loving You

Stairway To Heaven

Hot Dog

Achilles Last Stand

Custard Pie

The Rover

There are so many memorable ones.

Nobody's Fault But Mine

My choice too. I've always found the solo to be "conversational", for lack of a better word. It speaks!

I know most prefer the extended solos on the live version of "Stairway", but as a guitarist, I think the studio version is sheer perfection. That opening note with vibrato hits you like a cattle prod to the nads. and much like the song itself, slowly builds to a climax. GENIUS!

I had to change my vote after I noticed this said studio solo. I'd pick No Quarter '73 MSG every single time for Jimmy's best guitar solo. The way he ramps up fast and steady in the end with those climatic final strokes on the guitar. Wow, that is good stuff. But that ending unfortunately is not on the HOTH studio version, so I went for Ten Years Gone, another great one.

What does he do to get that layered sound, that wonderous blanketing of guitars that drives that song so strong and beautiful all at once? Might not even be a solo technically, but I'm picking it anyway. :)
