neverroll
My favorite era for the band as a whole was the 71 tour, after they recorded IV. Stuff like BBC Sessions, Orlando, and Osaka.
Sagittarius Rising
I would have to say the last time they fired on all cylinders was 73', after that there were issues. The 1975 tour IMHO was the best tour musically, Page, Jones, & Bonham did their best work on this tour. Unfortunately, Plant's voice was bad due to the surgery and illness I believe. The 77' tour had Plant back in amazing form, easily 1972 quality but Page was a wreck about 50% of the shows, average about a 1/4 of the shows, and brilliant the remaining 1/4. 1979 was ok, and 1980 was a return to the 1977 era consistency of Mr. Page. Such a shame, if Page would have been clean the 1977 tour would have been the bands pinnacle as a live act.
Cuthbert
Tours definitely '73, '75 and '77. Regarding the sound the first four albums seems to be produced better, I don't like the Hadley Grange sound at all, and I think albums like Presence and Physical Graffiti may have gained more attention. joe (Liverpool)
To be honest and without sounding obvious my favourite Zeppelin era was 1968 - 1980.
