Anyone remember their hi Der Kommissar which was also done around the same time by German musician Falco? The band was so loud and I couldn't believe how loud they were. They were quite good but I thought they could have been a bit better live. One thing I always remember from this show is David Lee Roth singling out someone in the audience. Someone in the audience a few rows back was throwing pennies on stage. So David Lee Roth says, "I know who you are and after the show, I'm gonna fuck your girlfriend!" I thought that was quite funny. It was called Summer Blast '93 and in order of appearance.... the bands were: Sven Gali, Ugly Kid Joe, April Wine, Meat Loaf, and Def Leppard. I was a 16 year old virgin from a small town and traveled 6hrs in the open box of a pickup truck to see this show. The smell of weed in the air, getting flashed by girls, and underage drinking.... what a time. Members of Sven Gali climbed the rigging during their show and Ugly Kid Joe put on a great performance. Meat Loaf had a wicked stage act driving his motorcycle on stage and ripping off his backup singer's clothes leaving her in her underwear. Def Leppard just f'ing rocked out and had a great light show. Got some autographs, made out with a chick, got a little bump on the head from a bottle of Jack Daniels that was being passed around, got my hair burned a little from sparklers being tossed in the crowd, and of course getting flashed by girls. The lady whose clothes were ripped off (which was staged) would be better defined as co-singer I guess (she did a few duets with him.... specifically Paradise By The Dashboard Lights and I Would Do Anything For Love...) Yep, she was his duet partner and must have been paid quite well to put up with old Meat. His tongue was so deep into her during PBTDL I was waiting for him to either pass out from oxygen deprivation, or spit out her tonsils when he came up for air. Poor woman. Maybe he was crazy from the heat that night in Phoenix America West Arena, but I have to give it to him, he and the band put on one hell of a show. Cheap Trick was pretty good as well. Years later I found out that they opened with the early versions of Dogs (You've got to be Crazy) and Sheep (Raving and Drooling). I only found out because a friend sent a copy of the show without knowing I had been to it many years earlier. My first concert was almost Zep at MSG in Feb that year. The Rover Posted August 18, 2018 Share Posted August 18, 2018 I desperately wanted my first concert to be The Beatles in 1964, but, my parents denied that, as there was no way they were going to escort me to that show (I was 8). So, 7 years later, when a band as good as The Beatles came along, I resolved that I would not be denied. I attended my first concert, at age 14, unchaperoned. I told my parents that I would probably hitchhike to get to the concert, some 30 miles away. They relented, and so my USMC Lt. Col father offered to drive me to the show, where he went to see a movie downtown, and then he picked me up afterwards. My first concert was Led Zeppelin on August 22, 1970 at the Fort Worth Tarrant County Convention Center Arena. There was a lot of second-hand "smoke" in the arena that night. My real first one was The Beach Boys with my mother, etc back in 1978 at the NY State Fair. My first show on my own was Foreigner on the “Foreigner 4 Tour” at the Carrier Dome. Bryan Adams opened.
