truth and beauty
Jimmy appears at the beginning of this video, issued by the makers of a new documentary about Joe Meek, and campaigning for additional funding. The doc is called A Life in the Death of Joe Meek and looks really cool.... obviously a real labour of love by the two filmmakers, who seem now to have run out of money. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/joemeek/a-life-in-the-death-of-joe-meek I hope they get support and that it sees the light of day: it looks like a fascinating film and I look forward to hearing more about JP's involvement with him. bluecongo
$40,000 ain't too much cash, why doesn't Jimmy just cut them a check? He probably makes that much every day.
Texas Melanie
$40,000 ain't too much cash, why doesn't Jimmy just cut them a check? He probably makes that much every day. That was my thought as well but maybe he has donated money and they are still that much from finishing the film.

nor_1
Hello fellow Led Zeppelin fans - hope you're all well. I just saw your posts here, and wanted to take a moment to call your attention back to our film's Kickstarter. I'm a volunteer assistant to directors Howard and Susan, and had the rare opportunity to watch this film (rough cut) recently, and I have to say - for *anybody* involved in music, music production, audio/sound engineering and documentary/indie film - this is a real treat. The film has a very fair and objective stance to Joe's life/struggles (both personal and professional), and will stand as the perfect tribute to such an influential figure and his legacy. It's high quality, solid documentary filmmaking, with a real heart. Also, there is plenty of Jimmy in the doc, and his stories and insights are fantastic, as expected. So far, Howard and Suan have done *all* of this on their very own (incredible). The film is completely self-financed (no check from Jimmy or anybody else), over a period of 9 years, with no outside interests/influences of any kind. They'd like to keep it that way, in order to maintain their factual stance on Joe, and really allow the average person to learn how much he actually influenced the music industry and pop culture - something they feel past documentaries have not adequately allowed (as they've resorted to focusing on and sensationalizing the circumstances surrounding his tragic death). This is why the Kickstarter is so important - to preserve that honest, objective vision. The directors would like to obtain a few more essential interviews (at this point they've already interviewed over 100 people - including close family/friends of Joe - and of course Jimmy, Steve Howe, Keith Strickland, etc.) - and they need to complete a lot of post-production work, not to mention preserve music licenseing/legal fees. There is a LOT of cost that goes into making a high quality film (while maintaining creative control over it). Unfortunately, most people simply don't know the process and red tape behind it all - otherwise, we know they'd help. Those who are truly interested in the subject and would like a chance to see the film have been amazing supporters, who've really kept this project alive for nearly a decade now. If you could be so kind as to share the link below with anybody you think could help - and just ask friends/family to re-share via all social media channels, and really get the word out, it would be amazing. We've got 20 days left on the Kickstarter which is really too close for comfort. Thank you very much for your interest and support! FireOpal
Looks like an amazing film, and very polished looking for a DIY. I hope Howard & Susan get the additional financing they need -- only $17K and change to go! That's an impressive range of musicians they've interviewed, esp. Lord Page (who indeed looks wonderful) and Steve Howe.
nor_1
FireOpal - yes, it is amazing, and very polised/professional (and I just saw an unfinished cut), and of course, we all hope we meet the initial KS goal as well. Big update to everybody here - we *just* found out this morning that IndieWire has nominiated the film as their Project of the Day. Voting begins this Friday, 9/28, so please follow the link below, and share it (along with our Kickstarter link) - vote, support, and spread the word. This is only going to work if word gets out effectively. This project is as DIY and "independent" as they get! Thank you so much once again for your support! Cecil.
According to IMDB this film came out in 2008 ?
nor_1
Hi Cecil - thanks for looking up the film, and for your interest! Yeah, I know it looks that way on both IMDB and Wikipedia - but it was only screened (in very rough cut) at a couple of music/film festivals that year (both here and in the UK) to receive feedback and get a sense of what the general public thought. So far, the reviews/responses have been stellar, but it is definitely unfinished, and needs funding, not to mention a few more essential interviews the directors are trying to land. At the time it was screened in 2008, they had only interviewed about 80 people - today, that number exceeds 100. It's been a long and exciting journey for the directors, but they *know* the project has a passionate fan base (myself included), and they're looking forward to giving fans what they've been waiting for. The most accurate information about the film is on its Kickstarter page here - http://kck.st/SyKsgd - you can read more background, and what still needs to be done. And, in most recent exciting news, as of today, IndieWire has opened up voting for their Project of the Week and the film is one of the nominees. Voting ends Monday, October 1st - please place a vote for the documentary here and spread the word - http://tinyurl.com/9x69lk4 Don't forget to follow our progress through any of the social media channels below.
