Dirigiblicus Maximus
Sorry to add another one, but after hearing the opening and GTBT for the 100th time on my crappy cpu speakers ( ), I have to say this: Jason, Simply a fantastic performance! I wont repeat anything more that is stated on other threads. But, dude - what a wonderful way to start the presentation! Trips out the a**. Triplets upon triplets. The bottom was mind blowing. A tip of the hat to your dad sure - but taken to another level, all in that rocking swing time. That is art baby! You need to insure your ankle tendons. Dont want to speak for anyone else, but I think you made the band. Where did that cowbell come from? MIDI? Anyways what I need is more cowbell brother! Take it home baby! You have made this Zep fan very proud. I need to end this post because I am starting to sound like I am getting a mancrush, but you know what I mean. Dirigiblicus Maximus
Thank you m'lady. Babies - we need more cowbell! Thanks for the reply Popeye. I'm not an expert, but I remember seeing a tamborine on the high hat but not a cowbell. Mabye I am looking at the wrong place. If you see a pic, post it! Id love to see it! edit: my brain cells finally kicked in. John Henry had a cowbell somehow attached to his bass drum right? low but easy enough for the left hand, eh? zep41
Jason was the element that made it work last week. MVP in my opinion -- he nailed it 99% head on (of course there were a couple miscues) but he succeeded with flying colors under the most extreme pressure and scrutiny. That shows some serious character. And even the minor miscues ---- he recovered EXACTLY the way his dad would have! Thanks to Jason for one of the greatest nights of my life. There is no question that his father is proud as can be right now, wherever he is.

I saw a picture of it over the last few days but now i cannot find where i saw it! If i do i will post it. peace! Hey everyone, I did find a picture of Zep/Jason where you can see his cowbell mounted over his floor toms. I want to thank The people who posted links to pics in another thread because that is where I found this. Pic of Jason showing cowbell over his floor toms Jason, if you are reading this, I want to let you know that you were amazing the night of the reunion (i was not there but I have a copy of the whole concert). I have always been a big fan of your dad's and when you came along I really felt a connection to you. I do not want to insult you, but I really have a similar style to yours, although right now I am not playing actively so you'd kick my ass admittedly. It is uncanny how I seem to have the same weaknesses and the same strengths in my playing style that you have. I love & own all of your Bonham & Jason Bonham Band work and I wish I could have seen those bands live. I first fell in love with your playing when I heard you on Page's Outrider piece. I love how you play on "Wasting My Time". My point is not about me but to tell you that you "rock" because you "rock", not just because you are John Bonham's son. While that is awesome that you are able to honor your father's legacy by playing such an amazing tribute, you should know that you are great on your own merits and we all love & respect you for that. You should be so proud that you performed so well because if you were not as good as you are, and did not put in so much effort to be that good, we both know that even though you are Bonzo's son, people would have been complaining that the reunion should not have been done without your dad. But that didn't happen because you were better than great. I have read how so many people think you were the "glue" that night and that your energy and approach to the songs brought the reunion to another level. peace! Popeye! Dirigiblicus Maximus
The tom has been found! Awsome job popeye and thanks. So right hand tom, left hand snare, and then the left foot high hat, right foot bass.... right? Do you think his whole performance was acoustic? I wonder if he digs on the MIDI \ tech stuff at all. You never know until you ask. I used to play bass in a band and always marvelled at drummers. Major coordinational abilities. And those trips I find amazing, not that it can be pulled off, but rather pulled off on rythm. I did notice mabye some possible improv - Jason riffing off of Jimmy. Seemed like it to me anyways on a few bits. Thats one unsung gift that Jimmy has - the rythm of his right hand. That dude has more groove in his right rist than most people have in their enitre body. Punctuate that with percussion in the right places, and my friends what you have can only be described as FUNKY ROCK POWER. I feel like I need to take a shower and try to wash this mancrush off..... Dirigiblicus Maximus
I still want to know if its all acoustic from the percussion, or did anyone see any foot pedals\tech etc

PlantOneOnMe
I believe that looking and listening to all the You Tube clips that we thankfully have available at our fingertips in the 21st century (since I was not there at the O2) the looks between them all and the looks of approval that were directed at Jason from John Paul, Robert and Jimmy- THEY themselves were most pleased and comfortable with the fact they could once again go on stage as LED ZEPPELIN, and not just 'Page and Plant" or 'Unledded.' It has come Full Circle with Jason at the Drum kit. A rite of passage for a son to take his father's place and a coming to terms with John Bonham's death after all these years. It belongs to Jason Bonham. It was meant to be.

Whether or not his approach was one of a family member or a fan (looks like it was both, IMO), by his performance, he OWNED his place up there. drummer
Jason Bonham has made his late father very proud. John Bonham has resurrected through his son. Jason, in my humble opinion has recusitated the spirit of Led Zeppelin. It is because of Jason that there are clamorings for Led Zeppelin to do a world tour.
