ccrider
Been wanting to ask for awhile. Had to resize photo. Anyone have a clue?
JGaul
I'm going to assume that it's some kind of medallion. He's worn quite a few throughout his career. From here, it looks to me like some guy riding a horse. I could be completely off
ccrider
Yes I got the medallion part, but this was part of an article of famous people from , or with connection to Wales. Since he has been heavily involved in Wales, I'm wondering if this is an antique he collected, or somewhat dated item. Love to know what this medallion signifies. Any Welch historians? JGaul
I see. I guess It should be no surprise that the camera's focus would favor Plant over some Welsh artifact.

SozoZoso
I always though the engraving on that reminded me of a coin, though I know it looks too big for it to be one.

Bayougal65
I think it is an Owain Glyndwr medallion! There is one that looks very similar on the wiki article, and we know Robert has been supportive of historical events honoring the ancient prince. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owain_Glyndŵr ------------------- Edit after another search: Yep, that is who is depicted, here is the original article http://www.wales.com/en/Default.aspx?n1=2&n2=1354&n3=1448&n4=1459 And it looks like it is not a medalion Robert is holding, but what might be the prince's ancient seal! (See article below) Very cool, Mr. Plant! http://jacobite.wordpress.com/2010/11/12/the-seal-of-owain-glyndwr-and-fragments-of-welsh-sovereignty/
Sagittarius Rising
Robert believes he is the reincarnation of this famous Welsh prince, as a result he has poured quite a bit of his money into this and is very supportive of anything related to the prince. bluecongo
Robert said he was a "Golden God" Owain Glyndwr strikes me as a "Granola God" Get your facts straight, man. SozoZoso, Your comments are fine. Robert believes he is the reincarnation of this famous Welsh prince, as a result he has poured quite a bit of his money into this and is very supportive of anything related to the prince. SR, I really think the reincarnation/ Owain Glyndwr tale is a load of falsely fabricated innuendo. I think Mr. Plant has a genuine interest in the history of the land he loves most, nothing more. Owain Glyndwr was a rebel against the evil powers that be, with a huge air of mystery surrounding him! Then he was mostly forgotten until recent years... It seems a very noble undertaking celebrating the history of the persecuted and forgotten. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.- Santayana

Speaking strictly for myself, I believe that anyone's beliefs are private and personal unless they share otherwise. What I do have a problem with is sheer conjecture and falsehoods stated as fact. Have you ever read Robert Plant himself stated that he is the reincarnated Owain Glyndwr? Until you do, it is pure conjecture on someone's part to state that he actually believes that he is! It is that simple. Peace!
ccrider
Ok Bayougal, thank you for that, been wondering if it was antique piece. Guessing it is a replica, even though the horse's rear is half missing as well. I am on my paternal line descended from Wales, so I find these things facinating. Thank you Bayougal. I don't remember him ever saying he was reincarnated from a Welsh prince, I just remember he was facinated by the Welsh history and culture. He supposedly learned the native welsh language, which is hard. He did name his son after a Welsh figure. In an interview which pictured Jennings farm, he commented that he lived in a 700 yr. old house tucked away in the Welsh hills like in the folds of a good woman's skirt....or something to that effect. Yet I don't think his farm there dates that far back.
Bayougal65
Ok Bayougal, thank you for that, been wondering if it was antique piece. ... No problem at all, CCRider! I am a research specialist, so it was a lot of fun researching Owain's seal. From what I have read, Robert is quite an expert on Welsh as well as other folklore and history. And you are right Welsh is no easy tongue! I would bet these studies and pursuits have probably more or less helped keep him grounded and sane. Everyone needs a hobby apart from their career or life's work!
ccrider
Bayougal, Have you read the interview where he stated his house was that old? It is in a very rural location, in the mountains; but I can find no indication it is actually that old. What a history it could tell of it's beginnings, and of it's previous occupants, and what their lives were like in the wilds of Wales. THAT would be a very interesting story...........I think. Thanks again!
