WChrisMullen Posted October 18, 2012 Share Posted October 18, 2012 My theater had to delay the start of the movie for about 10 minutes because they didn't have the unlock key, but they solved it pretty quickly after that. There weren't any volume problems during the film. The theater manager said the keys issue was going on almost everywhere that was showing it. I purchased my tickets (allocated seating) in advance because the film was advertised as being shown on the Extremescreen with state of the art sound this is even printed on the tickets. I have the stub and I also scanned them the day I bought them. When we got there we were told to go to the Extremescreen and then told, "the tickets are wrong and was asked "when and where we got them from" (I purchased them from the Blacktown box office), then ushered into a general admission cinema which was very much smaller than the cinema and the sound less than (was too soft for a music concert film), that I was led to believe was on show. This contravenes Section 52 of the Trade Practices Act - Misleading and Deceptive Conduct. Who made the changes and what was the reasoning behind it? This was a one show only event and at $20 per ticket ($40 in total), was not your average price. To say my partner and I are disappointed is an understatement as I never got what I paid for. Had we known it wasn't being shown on Extreme screen we would have gone to another cinema that did. I will be forwarding this message by email to the ACCC and the Dept. of Fair Trading after I receive your response and I expect to hear something by midday today 18/10/2012. I have been going to Hoyts Blacktown for many years since it opened and I may not go there again after this experience. I want to know what you are going to do in the way of compensation for the shabby treatment and the inconvenience to us and obvious false advertising? I await your reply. This is their response. Dear Reginald, Thank you for your feedback submitted to the Hoyts Website. I empathize with your concerns and in no way was it our intention to cause the disappointment associated with the changes we made however we did not have a given choice in the matter. As cinemas have moved towards digital formats, we gain the benefit of greater flexibility and there is greater protection for our product now than ever before. To actually run a digital feature, we require a 'Key' - which is a file that unlocks the digital print so we can screen it. Being a local to our Blacktown cinema you may be aware that the site has an Australian first installation in the Xtremescreen which involves two separate projectors communicating to each other to get the film on screen. The key that is used to unlock a standard digital print needs to be created and as such, the key for the Xtremescreen is very comprehensive. We were very much hoping that we would be able to screen the print in this cinema but were unable to get access to the correct key to screen it. When we were advised by our Head Office that we could not screen Led Zeppelin in the Xtremescreen, we immediately moved all seats to the best seats and most compatible to what was originally booked by online guests, to cinema 6 - One of our next largest auditoriums. At no stage did we charge any additional fee for the Xtremescreen tickets being sold for Led Zeppelin and we did try our best to ensure the screening went ahead in this cinema but it was ultimately beyond our control. We do state that all sessions are 'subject to change without notice' as a result of not having 100% guarantee that supply will be accurate. We rely on distributors to ensure the content is received in order to substantiate our business. In light of the frustrations you felt arriving here last night to the disappointment of not seeing a film on the Xtremescreen, I would love the opportunity to invite yourself and your wife to another session in this cinema at a time suited to you and if you could please supply me with your postal address, I will send these out to you, Once again, I hope you can see that we put all of our efforts into ensuring it would screen in there but were let down by our supplier unfortunately and I truly hope your past great experiences with us can overshadow this isolated incident and we can retain you as loyal guests of our cinema. When the Tampa newsreel footage started to play I could hardly hear it, and then I thought to myself this is going to disappointing. By the time IMTOD started the volume had gone up significantly, and then it just seemed to get louder and louder as the film progressed. I saw the film last night at the 'Vue' in Islington (London) and had the same thing. The galling thing is that the film was preceded by about 15 minutes of advertising telling us how amazing and innovative the sound system was, and how fabulous the digital picture was - it was slightly out of focus for the whole film. Here, as with many other places, people got up and complained about the volume, and although it was ramped up continually during the showing it didn't get to a decent volume until after IMTOD. Even then, they seemed to have forgotten the 'bass' control and the sound was harsh and quite top-endy. Considering this was a 'one-off' showing (well....two-off, but you know what I mean) and the prestige that the band are hoping the film will bring this was a piss-poor show on the part of the cinema. That said...... you'd think that they would have someone in the auditorium/projector room keeping an eye on things and tweaking things. I sent a complaint in to Vue Cinemas, and we'll see what lame crap they can come up with in lieu of an explanation. In Dublin last night, several people including myself were yelling out "Louder!" during the opening Tampa news clip. The sound got progressively louder throughout the show. by the 2nd half, it was pumping so loud, my tinnitus was activated this morning. There were lots of people going out early in the film, I presume to complain. It did get louder, but it could have been so much better. I anticipated feeling the beats from Kashmir as well as hearing them, and it just didn't happen. The James Bond trailer was louder than the beginning of the film. Aside from the fact that the theater couldn't get the sound system to work, the audience continually screamed "LOUDER", the LAPD was called and I left during the 2nd song and got a refund, the movie was good.... OK, I'm just kidding about it being good. Plant can't sing, Jones looks like he'd rather be at Guitar Center buying a 9 string bass, Page sounded wooden, and the film was constantly cutting away to super 8 clips. Don't these guys get it? Thank god they didn't have a reunion tour, they suck. Reading the posts this morning, I see that this was a common problem around the world. I had tickets to this concert when it was staged and ended up selling them. I waited 5 years to see what I missed and now I'm glad I sold my tickets. These guys look like complete idiots up on stage and you know why? Because unlike the Stones or Clapton, these guys aren't out there year after year performing. They sit at home re-living the glory days of their pre-1975 catalog and finally come out of retirement to do one concert? This is so typical of Jimmy Page's crap. When John Bonham died he sat upstairs in his room for 2 years obsessing over the death of his band. No chemistry on stage at the O2, none whatsoever. Jimmy, do the world a favor. Take all the outtakes, audio, photos, etc, and just release them to the general public. Stop screwing with the fans. You're a jerk for doing this, seriously. You gonna take all these things with you to the grave? You tell the public "I'm working on a special project" after this concert, then release this self-indulgent book that you charge $750 for and all it has is a bunch of photos??? This film shouldn't have been called "Celebration Day", it should have been titled "The song doesn't remain the same, the record is just skipping". I hope Jimmy Page reads the comments on this website (and why wouldn't he, it's not like he's busy making music). I've been a fan of Led Zeppelin since they formed. After last night, I'm going to ebay all the stuff I had you and Robert sign for me, I'm done with you and your pathetic treatment of the fans. Wow...... You know the Song Remains the Same was on Showtime last night. In my area it was as good as not being here. It was at one theatre, I am sure sold out, and too far for me to consider when I can buy it and blast it with my own speakers. Why go to a movie theatre to see it when I can buy it.
