The Guitar:

This unique guitar was created by the Martin Guitar Company (Custom Shop) and by one of Martin's most talented inlay artists, Tracy Cox, who has inlayed it with Led Zeppelin symbols, working in concert with JR Warner, Paul Hammond, Dick Boak and Christopher Thomas.

The Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar is a lovingly crafted Indian rosewood version of the discontinued D-28GE. Crafted to evoke the same powerful tone and sonorous projection as a pre-WWII D-28, the guitar differs only by using Indian, instead of Brazilian, rosewood, as the latter is both very scarce and considered endangered.

Only premium-grade, solid Indian rosewood has been used for the back and sides, with a solid Adirondack spruce top, scalloped Adirondack spruce braces and forward-shifted X-bracing. A special aging toner gives the wood a vintage countenance. The result: rich, powerful sounds from a remarkable and beautiful instrument.

The list of historically accurate details, nearly overwhelming and totally exhaustive, captures the authentic spirit of the Martin D-28. These include:

  • - mahogany blocks/dovetail neck joint construction;
  • - slot-through saddle;
  • - herringbone binding;
  • - neck dart;
  • - zipper back marquetry;
  • - ivoroid binding;
  • - herringbone top trim;
  • - Waverly butterbean tuners;
  • - old-style wood fiber rosette;
  • - beveled and polished tortoise pickguard;
  • - ebony bridge with long saddle;
  • - modified V-shaped neck;
  • - ebony fretboard (1-3/4" nut, 25-2/5" scale) with diamond and square inlays and
  • - fossil ivory nut, saddle, and bridgepins (with black dots.

A limited edition run of only 3 pieces makes this a wonderfully unique, highly coveted and rare item for the distinguished enthusiast or collector.

I want, I want!! I am very pleased that the money raised is going to great charity. A friend of mine has a Martin and it is such a fantastic guitar to play. It has such a great feel.

I wonder what child of mine I could sell for the most money to win this auction? :P
