Cleveland. From a young age, live music was a huge part of our lives. We even had "underage" clubs with local bands playing weekends before we moved up to the licensed places.

I discovered Frank Zappa on WMMS underground all night radio (They played Freak Out in its entirety) at 13 or so and jumped down to the record shop the next day to get a copy of the newly released LP. It turned out that Jimmy Fox worked there and told us to catch his band sometime. Eventually we did - James Gang with Glen Schwartz - before the Joe Walsh days. I remember standing there with my mouth agape as the JG were head and shoulders above most other local bands at that time. Eric Carmen was also around later on, playing in various bands as I recall, but my band of friends weren't into his music.

Augusta, Georgia - Home of The Masters®

That's actually kind of an inside joke on my part, as The Masters Golf Tournament is one of the most famous events in sports.

It's Augusta's biggest claim to fame, and they milk it for all it's worth.

They are quite touchy about using the name, hence my sarcastic inclusion of the registered mark.

The most obvious musician is the Godfather of Soul James Brown.

Met him twice, once at a BP gas station.

Very down-to-earth.

He stood around almost 10 minutes while fueling up his Benz just chatting and signing autographs for about 4 or 5 people who just happened to be there.

Once he pulled up behind me in his car at a light - I put my hand out the window with a thumbs-up and he smiled and waved back.

Every year at Thanksgiving he handed out turkeys in the low-income areas of town, and every Christmas he did the same with toys - a tradition that his estate has continued.

Also, Augusta is the hometown of Jessye Norman, a famous opera singer.

About 15 miles above Augusta is Aiken, South Carolina, the home of the Perry brothers of 1980s NFL fame - Michael Dean and William The Refrigerator Perry.

And about an hour or so down the road is Athens, Georgia, where R.E.M. got their start while attending the University of Georgia.

-Chris Fumo is in my band FishHead. Back in the 90's, he was in a band here called SCORCHER. Their lead singer at the time was Dan McMaster who got tapped to be the singer in BONHAM. The story goes that Jason and Phil Carson came to Barrie to the Clifton (local bar, long gone unfortunaltey) to watch Scorcher. They stayed for the gig and then took Danny down to Toronto and signed him. Then he sang with Bonham for a couple of albums I think. Dan has since passed away but was one hell of a singer.

-Carl Dixon from Coney Hatch lived in Barrie when he was in his teens.

-Gordon Lightfoot is from Orillia, just a little north of here (20 mins)

Actually, not artificial turf, but for high-tech watering and drainage of natural turf.

IIRC, the same person who designed the system for the Augusta National Golf Club (where they hold The Masters) also did the turf for Turner Field in Atlanta, where the Atlanta Braves play.

Both are known for being able to drain off excess water very rapidly so that play can resume more quickly.

Also, the turf is watered from below (I believe) - no visible sprinklers or water spraying into the air.

Rochester, NY. Home town of lead singer of Foreigner Lou Gram and jazz player Chuck Mangione. and his brother Gap. Philip Seymour Hoffman the actor, Fairport High school where my kids went and my sister was in his class.

The song "Rev on the Red Light" was named after Lake Avenue here. Drag racing, high speed chases, etc. I used to drive that road in my crazy days. Took you right to the pier of Lake Ontario. Right where the short lived Ferry was

Well you can forget the Beatles because apparently they're Irish ;)

Really??? I didn't know Liverpool was in Ireland, and if you know this for a fact is it Northern Ireland or Eire that the Beatles are from? maybe my geography is far better than yours. Liverpool is in the North West of England, NOT somewhere in Ireland, is it all four of them or just three or two or just one?
