Dee Dee Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) One of the reasons I believe Led Zeppelin was successful was their music was never shoved down our throats. The people chose this band; not the media. And though the media might want to argue that Led Zep never needed publicity, it always appeared that mainstream media was vacant (for lack of a better word) when it came to Led Zeppelin. Mainstream media never followed Led Zeppelin like they did Elvis or The Beatles. It appears as if mainstream media was lost or hadn't a clue when it came to Led Zeppelin, or perhaps the media was otherwise engaged in shoving down our throats artists and celebrities for whom the public cared far less about. I hereby open up for discussion the topic of stardom that has been shoved down our throats. Celebrities who have been forced upon us when no one appeared willing to pull them off the stage. This would not include celebrities people love to hate; nor would it include those we apparently love to bash. This would include artists and celebrities who have enjoyed fame though not because of their music or talent (whatever that may be) but because their music was constantly being played even when it wasn't that popular. Or perhaps because they were constantly in the news. You can also include those who have amazed you with their apparent success though you cannot fathom why anyone would like them. Enjoy! I have to admit that when their first album came out I really didn't know what to think of them as I was coming out of the LSD/Haight/Hippie daze. But once their 2nd album came out I was forever hooked on Zep. And Rolling Stone magazine still sucks balls. Quote
tazulike88 Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Mainly 90% of the music that exists today is Just shoved down our Throats, music now is mainly a commercial product rather than artistic, that's why i found refuge in the 70s. Quote

the chase Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 great topic ... So many artists have been shoved down the public's throats.. How else can we explain a Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry coming out of nowhere to being everywhere in a matter of months ... and when they wane a little the plug is pulled and bubbye.. Led Zeppelin has unbelievable staying power.. all the more amazing that they did this without Television, good press, even singles.. Quote

Dee Dee Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) I would vote for any law that outlaws Madonna. "I can't sing if you smoke." My ass! Elton John claims she doesn't sing anyway! Along the same genre, I once heard a DJ on KLOS FM make the following observation: "When they look at the musical legends of our time and consider who among them are truly noteworthy, it is NOT going to be Britney." In my opinion, she can bump and grind all she wants if she would just get the lizard out of her throat! Edited December 24, 2012 by Dee Dee Quote

Led Zeppelin has unbelievable staying power.. all the more amazing that they did this without Television, good press, even singles.. Thank you. What inspired me to suggest this topic was watching all these recent interviews of Led Zeppelin and how some of the interviewers were relaying the history of the band and its success almost as if they were introducing the band to the public for the first time, which just made me want to shake my head and shake my fists. YOU FOOLS!! YOU ARE NOT TELLING THE FANS ANYTHING WE DO NOT ALREADY KNOW!! Mainstream media did not bring Led Zeppelin to the public. It was the public who brought Led Zeppelin to mainstream media! And when I say "public", I don't just mean the 20 million who wanted tickets to the see them at the '02. I mean the 20 million PLUS! And I say PLUS because when they announced that concert; not only were there 20 million who tried to get a ticket, but also the COUNTLESS OTHERS WHO ALSO WANTED A TICKET BUT DIDN'T BOTHER TRYING BECAUSE THEY EITHER COULDN'T AFFORD TO FLY ACROSS THE OCEAN TO LONDON OR FIGURED THE ODDS OF THEIR GETTING A TICKET WAS ... well what we now know is one in 20 million. MEANWHILE, mainstream media and its so-called experts have spent all these years since the release of their first LP doing what !? AND SHOVING IT DOWN OUR THROATS UNTIL WE CHOKE!! Which isn't to say that there aren't other bands I like, because there are just as there are other things I like besides music and other music I like besides Led Zeppelin. There are lots of talented people out there. But if 20 million PLUS want a ticket to see Led Zeppelin and mainstream media only conducts an interview when The Kennedy Center bestows them honor, what does that tell you. Quote

Although don't you think that some people who should have had the plugged pulled years ago are allowed to linger on for mainly only nostalgic value? Last week I watched Paul McCartney on SNL doing his best Angela Landsbury style grunge with the surviving members of Nirvana, and all I could think about was Pat Boone doing his cover of Ozzy Osbourne and thinking why?. Maybe John Lennon was right when he disagreed with Neil Young over Hey, Hey My, My?. Lennon said, "no, it's better to fade away than to burn out." I think he was right. Quote
Old Shep Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 ^ I concur. Macca is rapidly becoming an embarrassment to us Brits, and also to the Irish I believe. Quote
