crizman
sorry if this has been covered already-I tried to search! When Keith Moon made a guest appearance @ the L.A. show ( Badgeholder's only). Did he play along with Bonzo or did he take over the drum kit? Which songs exactly did he appear on. I have'nt had or heard this show in 20 years. Getting a new computer soon & hope to track down some of these shows A.S.A.P. Was anyone here @ this show?
Strider
Me and Badgeholder were at this show. June 23, 1977. The Forum of Inglewood. Keith Moon popped up during "Moby Dick" and the encore. It was very strange and surreal as at first, it was difficult to tell what was going on. I was focused on Bonzo as they went into "Over the Top/Moby Dick", and then I heard this strange babbling as someone was talking. What was that? Huh? Then I saw some dark-haired figure who obviously wasn't Mick Hinton pop up around Bonzo's kit. It took a moment before people recognized it was Moon the Loon...and he was obviously sauced to the gills. No matter, he plonked along with Bonzo and Bonzo even allowed Keith to play a bit on the kit. After the solo, he was escorted back to the wings. Then, when the band came back for the encore after Stairway, it was Keith Moon who came to the mic at the front of the stage while Robert Plant sat behind the drums and gave it a brief go. Moon slurred something about what great rock and roll was about and that he'd be back in the future with his backing band before Robert came to restore some order to the proceedings. With that, Moon retired to Bonzo's kit and they launched into the WLl/Rock and Roll encore, with Moon pounding the tympani and shaking a tambourine. And that was it...3.5 hours of lunacy had ended. And that was the last time Keith Moon would be seen on a concert stage in America. Here's a thread about this show: Edited January 30, 2013 by Strider

Nutrocker
The "Badgeholders" show (as it is known) is one of Zeppelin's most legendary performances. Moonie's appearance went down exactly as Strider described (he was an eyewitness, after all), and though Keith didn't exactly distinguish himself playing-wise (he can be heard clear as a bell on the numerous bootlegs of the show) he definitely made his presence known. Here is the famous audience shot 8mm footage from the show, including Moonie's appearance during the encores:

Nutrocker
is the story about Moon helping to bring about the band's name true ? That's probably one issue that'll never be settled John Entwhistle laid equal equal claim to the name as well, and Moonie and The Ox aren't around anymore to set the record straight. Great story, though, no matter who said it...I can imagine the conversation, and I always hear the "Yeah, we'll call it Led Zeppelin, 'cos that's how it'll go over" line spoken in such droll, sarcastic tones I reckon that combination (Moon, Ox, Page, Beck and I think Nicky Hopkins) would have went over very well actually, and I think they knew it. I sold all my boots as well as a 1969 tour book( which I bought for 10 dollars in 1982) around 1992 because I was POOR! It kills me to have let them go - still a huge regret!
