yoosrid
Back then the mob had to be in on it, or at least get a cut afterwards. you know how they did it back then.
SteveAJones
Back then the mob had to be in on it, or at least get a cut afterwards. you know how they did it back then. I agree. Anyone remotely familar with organized crime in NYC knows this has all the characteristics of an inside job. You can almost imagine a hotel porter or desk clerk calling Joe Pesci with a tip-off in exchange for a cut of the action. Richard Cole was investigated but cleared of any involvement. RiotHouse77
Of course there is the possibility of a complete publicity stunt I don't believe that myself but if so, Peter Grant did a helluva job feigning outrage . . .

SteveAJones
Of course there is the possibility of a complete publicity stunt Peter Grant never pulled publicity stunts and they were already the #1 band in the world. He was very angry as the following day was a leaving day. Not to mention all the subsequent hassles involved with the police investigation. cuckoo-man
Of course there is the possibility of a complete publicity stunt Have you seen the extras on the new TSRTS DVD? A journalist (New York Post?) suggests to Peter Grant that this is indeed just a publicity stunt. ...suffice to say Grant puts him in his place, and makes him look foolish... wep363
Who cares! It seems to me that they have been milking that concert for 35 years. With the movie, sound track, and Now DVD they have made up the money lost in the box many many times over.

Banking in 1973 was not as sophisticated as it is now. Additionally, as soon as you start investing or depositing you open yourself up to the tax man.
