Jimmy Page featured in the April 2013 issue of Esquire Magazine

Just spotted this in a scan of the magazine on eBay: A feature on Jimmy Page named 'What I've Learned' 'A whole lotta Jimmy Page' appears in the April 2013 issue of Esquire magazine. I'm not sure if this is to do with the John Varvatos campaign, an interview to promote something, a discussion of his clothes, or quite what it is, but I thought I'd post it here in case anyone wants to pick up the magazine.

I have seen inside the magazine. I will put here what I can remember of it.

The question and answers session takes up the left hand page, and on the right hand page there is a new photo of JImmy which was taken in a hotel bedroom in New York in October 2012. JImmy is standing next to a large bed (calm down ladies!!!). The photographer is not Ross Halfin.

The most important part of the interview is where JImmy says that he will be playing live next summer. Now, if the interview took place at the same time as the photoshoot, then 'next summer' would be this summer - 2013.

At the beginning, when Jimmy is asked about the band's hedonistic activities, he replies that it was the other band members, not him, as he was always in bed with a hot cocoa!!!!

Throughout the answers he stresses that it was the music that was important. He emphasises that it was the coming together of 4 top professional musicians that was the key to the band's success.

When asked about Crowley, he states that people forget he was also interested in the Pre-Raphaelites.

He says that when he was in the Yardbirds, his clothes got completely ripped off him at one gig.

He talks briefly about his drinking and says that what used to be waking up with a hangover, turned into a 2 day hangover.

I think Page was having some fun with the interviewer. He has been quoted in the past as saying after the adrenaline rush of playing a three hour gig, he couldn't just retire to his room and have a cup of cocoa. I'll see if I can find the source of this quote but I read it many years ago.

I went looking for Esquire Magazine at a Newsagents today and a lady thought I was a pervert looking for porn mags. It was awkward so I gave up :(

Haha! I felt well pervy too! ^_^ They only had the March issue but it was next to real porn  I'm assuming you just mean like Nuts and those ones...well at ours it was next to Penthouse! Super awkward!

Yes, he was definitely joking. From memory, he makes a comment to the effect that the industry is now dominated by record company types like Simon Cowell (as compared to being influenced by musicians)

The Danelectro in the bed is interesting. Why would Jimmy Page travel with it? That's not his house, it's a hotel room. Olympic cyclist Bradley Manning has seen Jimmy Page at the airport, and according to Twitter he's been all over the country recently. Recording an album?

That is interesting especially since the picture was taken in New York.

Yep, presumably it was taken at the same time as the Celebration Day press conference. He's wearing the same jacket and scarf as he did for the photos on the roof of the Riverton Hotel, so presumably that's where this photo is from.
