The book comes alive with a tap, swipe or pinch and provides an unprecedented and comprehensive look into the world of Led Zeppelin, one of rock’s most iconic bands. Through Preston’s lens the reader experiences hundreds of photos (over 100 of whichhave never been seen before), 80 contact sheets (all previously unpublished), audio commentary from Preston, video and text interviews with people who worked with the band, and even memorabilia and set lists for concerts whose photos are featured in the book. Created with Apple’s digital book creation app, iBooks Author, this Multi-Touch experience on iPad is unprecedented in its visual style and layout, letting the reader explore never-before-seen shots of Led Zeppelin and join them not only on stage, but also backstage. Led Zeppelin: Sound And Fury contains an intro by Stevie Nicks and has contributions from bands like My Chemical Romance, Heart, Mastodon and many more. truth and beauty Posted April 1, 2013 Share Posted April 1, 2013 Why does this sadden me ? Of course I'd like to see it, but I'd rather pay more than 10 dollars, and own it as a physical book. I paid the £400 for Jimmy's book, and I love it, so glad I did .. though I didn't pay for Neal Preston's £1250 photo offered on the JP website ( even though that one was my favourite): when beautiful things cost a lot of money, then yes, sooner or later they exclude some of us with other bills to pay. I hate the idea of being ripped off, but I absolutely recognise when I am being offered something tangible, and of quality. I think this is the reverse: someone who has been one of the foremost Led Zeppelin photographers is selling off his stuff electronically, and for not much more than the price of a glossy music mag. I know Neal Preston has produced some wonderful publications of his Zep photos .. maybe there's nothing more to do on that front. It's all about the world of publishing .. which is also just like music releases: illegal downloads vs born-again vinyl addicts. People with a wilful determination to pay for stuff which others are ripping off, or getting cheap. It's perverse of me, but reading about this book, I almost feel like saving my pennies and buying that stupid silver nitrate photo . You could argue that each is a kind of travesty .. I thought iBooks had a desktop version of the app...well, hopefully it's made available on other platforms shortly thereafter. They're great. It takes a lot to put together something like this, and then it sells for almost nothing! $9.99? There's only one other thing like it out there.. that's the LIVE DREAMS iPhone/iPad APP from Laurance Ratner, based on the very expensive 1993 coffee-table book. It's pretty cool, with a lot of interactive stuff, and it's like $4.. The iBook technology has recently been enhanced to allow some interactive features, like those normally found on Apps. So that probably convinced them to do an iBook instead of an APP.. (iBooks generally sell for more--I don't know why.) Neal is one of the good guys, and he's the one who had the best access.. fortunately, his skills were up to the task that his access level deserved. this comes out tomorrow.. so just get it. and for the low cost.. you should have the LIVE DREAMS APP too... It's called Led Zeppelin: Sound and Fury. More details here. Suffice to say, it looks fab, shiny and lovely. However, as part of the publishing deal, it is only available through iTunes. Fair enough, one might surmise. That's business, kids. But here's the kicker: "This book is available for download on your iPad with iBooks or on your computer with iTunes." It is only for viewing on an iPad, not even a Mac (which I have). I'd whine and gripe about this if I thought I could do any good.
