Nutrocker
"How has society changed since the 70's?" As someone born in 1968 I think in a lot of ways it's gone right down the fuckin' toilet, and getting worse every year. Just based on that remark alone, personally all the bad craziness we have experienced in the last few years -specifically since 9/11- has only made me increasingly cynical and misanthropic. I can barely stand to watch the news anymore...trouble is, I am a 100% news junkie (being a former journalist doesn't help) but I seem to do it for the same reason people can't help rubbernecking at a car smash. Specifics? People seem to be a lot more self centred than they used to be...the overriding mentality seems to be, "Fuck you, Jack, I got mine..." and the younger generation seems to be the most apathetic I have ever seen. Changes need to be made, but nobody seems to give a damn...we've become so brainwashed by a constant litany of "Fear and Terror" in the media and dumbed down by mindless Reality TV and celebrity gossip that even people who do care about making positive change are too lazy to do it. Told ya I was cynical and misanthropic I could go on and on, but I think the following clip sums my feelings up better than anything else: Peter Finch's classic rant from the movie Network, as relevant today (maybe even moreso) than it was when it came out in 1976...ladies and gentlemen, I give you Howard Beale:
DropDown
It was ok to genuinely laugh in the 70s; nowadays you can't even sneeze and immediately all sorts of contrived innuendo is read into it. I'm so glad I was a child then. I miss those days!
