Kinda disappointing. I'd love some actual songwriting.

I'm assuming it's the same album both he and Buddy Miller talked about in 2012 in which case it is new material.

Although Jimmy Page says the prospects for a Led Zeppelin reunion aren't looking good, fans may well have the considerable consolation of a rocking new Robert Plant solo record to look forward to in 2013.

Band of Joy guitarist and producer Buddy Miller tells Rolling Stone that the Led Zeppelin singer visited his home studio in Nashville last year for a casual joint songwriting session that proved fertile, yielding an inspired batch of songs that the pair quickly recorded with Band of Joy drummer Marco Giovino.

"We didn't mean to, but we sort of wrote a record's worth [of material] and I said, 'While we're doing this, why don't I put up some mics and document it,' because that's better than just trying to remember it or record it on your phone," Miller explains. "And it sounded so good I think we, you know, accidentally made a record."

It's not finished yet, and there's no indication whether Plant will actually release it when it is, so Miller chooses his words carefully. "I don't know how much [Robert] would want me talkin' about it," he says, though he does allow that the songs they recorded would make for a raw counterpart to Plant's 2010 LP Band of Joy. "If the last record might be pastoral, parts of it, [this one's] much more tribal; it's much more urgent and tribal and, dare I say, rockin'!"

I thought this article looked familiar and it certainly does It's from November, 2012 in Rolling Stone. Thanks anyway ProPlant. Not sure if this will be the next project Robert releases as he has also recorded material with the SSS as well. Something is up as he has met with producer Daniel Lanois over the last week or so in Los Angeles as has been noted in another thread.

Any guesses by anyone, which project Robert goes for. I'm guessing Buddy Miller.

Yeah what does Griffin have to do with that?

Hi pottedplant.

Well, I was also referring to Strider's post. I forgot to insert the quote.

"Not that Patty Griffin is chopped liver...hell, get all three of them together in a studio!!!"

Come on...seriously? If I have to explain that to you then you're not the Geezer I thought you were.

Okay you were being sarcastic. Wasn't that hard to guess.

Um, actually I was not being sarcastic. I sincerely think Robert, Alison amd Patty would sound great on a record together.

Come on Buddy, T-Bone, somebody...make it happen. With guest appearance by Jeff Beck on guitar.

That would be so cool! I'd certainly welcome that.

Following Robert's free admission, open air gig in the park he stopped by Buddy Guy's Legends to visit with fellow Kennedy Center honoree Buddy Guy.

While there Robert also signed a few autographs for the public.

Thanks Cookie. They're a great band and quite fitting that Robert would do that. They opened up for him on a number of his BOJ dates in 2011. Saw them at the Austin City Limits fest in 2011. Was really impressed with them.

I was pretty close up for their show so, here's a photo.

Robert Plant played a surprise show last night in a little New Orleans club.

NEW ORLEANS -- Monday night wasn't a normal night at BJ's in the Bywater. Most nights aren't. But this Monday night was a special treat for a few lucky souls when rock icon and former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant stopped by Guitar Lightning Lee's gig at the tiny club on Burgundy Street and sat in.

And, of course, in the digital age, rumors were abuzz Tuesday on social media and somebody recorded part of Plant's visit.

In fact, several people recorded the event. Both videos capture Plant singing, a New Orleans classic, Jessie Hill's "Ooh Poo Pah Doo" -- with a few bars of Lee Dorsey's "Ya Ya" thrown in for good measure.

The videos don't show everything from the night. According to one person who uploaded the video on YouTube, Plant was part of "a two-hour blues jam that included 12-bar and shuffle versions of Black Dog, Since I've Been Loving You, and more."

Plant's impromptu performance for a few dozen comes ahead his show at the Mahalia Jackson Theater Wednesday night. Who knows where Plant could turn up Tuesday night?

At BJ’s Lounge in the Ninth Ward, Monday nights are always anything but dull. Normally the province of King James and the Special Men, who traditionally kick off the week with their nasty, sweaty brand of vintage New Orleans R&B, the corner bar has this summer been the province of guest stars Guitar Lightnin’ Lee and his Thunder Band. The Lower Ninth Ward-born bluesman, a former student of “Boogie” Bill Webb and Jimmy Reed, has filled in over the past few weeks as the Special Men make their first foray up the East Coast and their debut at New York City’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Monday night, July 15, was a little more crowded than usual as Lightnin’ concluded his first set of swamp pop and blues. Just before midnight, fans taking a break from the smoke-filled air outside got a hint at the reason why: first, Li’l Band O’Goldguitarist and frontman C.C. Adcock parked his black Cadillac beside a hydrant on Lesseps Street at the corner of Burgundy. A group of polite Englishmen spilled out, greeting the crowd of onlookers cheerfully, as Adcock remained outside on his cell phone, giving driving directions to someone who didn’t know the neighborhood: “OK, you’re on St. Claude Avenue?” he said. “No! Don’t go over the bridge!”

Adcock slipped into the bar and strapped on his guitar soon after, navigating the band through the Rolling Stones’ version of Louisiana bluesman Slim Harpo’s “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRKAWWs8hUY.” Who he’d been directing on the phone became clear shortly, as Guitar Lightnin’ announced with a flourish: “Ladies and gentlemen, C.C. Adcock, and my very good friend, Robert Plant!”

Lightnin’ had met the former Led Zeppelin frontman in early 2007, during a tribute to Fats Domino at Tipitina’s in celebration of “Goin’ Home,” the 2006 Fats benefit album produced by the Tipitina’s Foundation. Adcock and his Li’l Band O’Gold had been paired with Plant in recording a track for the project, which led to a musical friendship that landed the group six opening slots for Plant’s Sensational Space Shifters band; Li’l Band O’Gold and the Space Shifters play the Mahalia Jackson Theater together Wednesday night, July 17. In town a couple of days early, Plant had, apparently, decided to make the most of his trip to South Louisiana.

BJ’s Lounge doesn’t, technically, have a stage. An archway, festooned with Christmas lights and “Happy Birthday” pennants in preparation for blues guitarist Little Freddie King’s birthday party next weekend divides the bar from the performance area. During regular evenings, the space beyond the arch is an extension of the bar, with comfy seats and eccentric posters on the walls. As Lightnin’s band played Monday, the Sensational Space Shifters, and Plant, hung out there, smiling and tapping their feet. When Plant took the mic, performing Slim Harpo’s “Sugar Coated Love” and “Got Love if You Want It,” as well as Earl King’s “Lonely Lonely Nights,” the Chess Records classic “Hoochie Coochie Man” and others, the Thunder Band slowly switched out with the Space Shifters, playing an easy, laid-back juke-joint jam session.

The bar was crowded, but frankly, a jam-packed room at BJ’s amounts to about 75 people. Ian St. Pe, the native New Orleanian co-founder of the buzzy garage-pop band the Black Lips, was in town visiting his mother and had stopped in for a beer. Told why it was so crowded, he said, “You’re kidding,” and muscled to the front for a look.

At BJ’s Monday night, Plant was less of a performer than an enthusiastic, participating visitor. He teased with a two-second quotation of the Zep’s “Ramble On,” then briefly fronted the Thunder Band, rousing the crowd into a singalong for the opening hollers of Jesse Hill’s “Ooh Poo Pah Doo,” before slipping away quietly to the living-room area of the rear stage. As a Sensational Space Shifter sang lead, with a combined backing band, on “Let The Good Times Roll,” Plant was visible in the back of the room, sipping a Miller High Life; grinning ear to ear, he pulled out his cell phone and shot video of the action.
