kingzoso Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 (edited) I personally believe that Mr. Robert Johnson is the King of the Delta Blues and the "Godfather" of Rock and Roll as we all know and Love to this day. I think that the whole world owes a tremendous debt to Robert Johnson. If it were not for this one Man, I do not think that any of the Music we know Today would be the way it is. (I know that Son House and Willie Brown were "mentors" to Robert Johnson, however, I do not know if any of their Music was actually recorded way back in the 1930's). Robert Johnson's Music was recorded in 1936 in San Antonio, Texas and in 1937 in Dallas, Texas. As for the Myth, Legend, and Speculation of his mediocre guitar playing abilities at the beginning to His guitar Prowess and influence in a span of a few months leads me to believe that Robert Johnson did, in fact, sell His Soul to the Devil/Satan at the Crossroads. (How this is possible I have No idea but I think that He really did). Call Me CRAZY!!! It does not matter to me. Not that this is proof but I urge anyone who reads this to take the short time to watch this YouTube clip. Very, very interesting. And this was coming out of the mouths of people that actually knew Robert Johnson way back then. By the time they were interviewed they were old men and did not have any reason to make up what they said. Edited June 8, 2013 by kingzoso Quote
Honeydrip79 Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Very interesting. Maybe the 6-8 months Robert Johnson was gone was spent receiving guitar lessons and busting his ass to improve, and that unleashed his true musical talent? I just don't buy the devil story, but it is the stuff legends are built on. Quote
Sagittarius Rising Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 ^ Agree, devil scmevil, no such thing. The only thing anyone gonna get hanging out at the crossroads is a sunburn and a ticket for vagrancy. RJ simply quit hanging out in juke joints and practiced. When I started playing guitar I had a very similar arc. I thought simply hanging out with guitarists that somehow I would absorb the talent, well after a year I still played like shit. Finally I decided I actually had to WORK at practicing with a clear cut routine and schedule, once I did that it was amazing how quickly I became very good. Musicianship is like anything else, you get out of it only what you are willing to put into it. No big secret. Quote
backinthezeppelin Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I think believing that Johnson sold his soul makes his whole story much more interesting, so it's just a little thing I like to believe. Same with Kurt Cobain's death being a murder, and Paul being dead. Quote
kingzoso Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 Fascinating. Thanks kingzoso. You are welcome. I find the whole Robert Johnson story very fascinating and I think that I am in good company when Elvis Presley, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger and all the rest of the famous Musicians that have been influenced by this One Black Blues Player from the 1920's and 1930's had on the creation of the Delta Blues and what would later become the Music that We all know, Respect and Love to this day and for all Eternity. Long Live the One and Only, Mr. Robert Leroy Johnson. (I guess I should also have to Thank Satan too). Listen and Enjoy: http://youtu.be/HleLTn60BxE Quote
