Graphite Blimp
I love this version of the song! Does anyone have a tab of how Jimmy plays it here? I can never get this one right. I can play the regular song, but the way he does this version.... I just don't know. Thanks!
FunkyPhantom
i think they play it a step higher on that one...haven't heard it in a while
joey1985
There is a video on youtube that has someone doing the whole breakdown in the middle part almost note for note, I don't think it's a lesson but it's about as close as you'll probably get. Led Dirigible
I made a tab for the pre-solo section. It's post #4 in this thread: http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/20640-help-with-tabbing-wll-1973/ And I'm pretty sure they don't play it a step higher. Graphite Blimp
Thanks Led Dirigible! I was wondering about that part too. What about the regular riff? I swear it sounds different or maybe I'm not doing it right. I play this version here: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/l/led_zeppelin/whole_lotta_love_ver4_tab.htm
Led Dirigible
He does play it differently live. Instead of playing it like the tab you posted, he plays it like this: E|-------------x---x-x-x--x-x-x-- B|-------------x---x-x-x--x-x-x-- G|-------------9---9-9-9--9-9-9-- D|-------------9---9-9-9--9-9-9-- A|-----5---5---7---7-7-7--7-7-7-- E|--7---7------x---x-x-x--x-x-x--
Graphite Blimp
I knew making an account on the forums would be worth it! Thank you so much

anodizingstatic
There are tabs....but using your ear is the best tool you can refine. It's frustrating at first, I sometimes use Amazing Slow Downer or similar programs to hear it bit by bit. You kind of have to "feel" Page's playing, and translate that to yours. JPM73
The secret to the live version intro is using a touch of delay, hitting single notes instead of chords, and throwing an open G string into the riff. Remember to always play the D note on the fifth string with a little vibrato while striking the open D below it for a thicker unison sound. Page revealed this trick in an interview with Guitar World a few years back. e ------------------------------------------------------------------ B ------------------------------------------------------------------ G --------------------------------------------------0-------------- D--------0--------0------------------------------------0------0--- A -------5--------5----7------------7---------7-------5------5--- E ---7--------7-----------0--0--0-----0--0---------------7------

But delay? I don't think so...I hear NO ounce of delay in TSRTS but I could be wrong. An extremely small amount of reverb never hurts though - as it was in the Garden, an arena. (You obviously wouldn't want any digital reverb if you were playing live though...). Great tips though. PS: Welcome to the Forum my friend! Glad another TSRTS guy around here :-) Edited April 3, 2014 by anodizingstatic
JPM73
I have always loved TSRTS. Figuring out the solos on Dazed & Confused has been my life's work.

I can not succeed in finding what page is really playing. It seems like a mix of major and minor pentatonic...Thanks in advanceLooking forward to reading you.PS : To JMP73, playing Dazed & Confused of TSRTS would be a life achievement for me. But as it remains too tricky for me by hears, if you any transcribed parts already available, I am interested in.Thanks to Led Dirigible for is help on the pre solo section of WWL
Sathington Willoughby
I wrote out a tab for the San Francisco section a few years ago on Ultimate-Guitar.com. Here it is, with corrections. Riff sounds very similar to 'Achilles Last Stand' e:---0------0------0-----0----------------0~~~---0--0----------------| B:-----0------0------0-----0--------------3~~~----3--3---------------| G:----------------------------------------0~~~-----0--0--------------|>3x D:--2------4------5------7------5---4-----0~~~-----------------------| A:----------------------------------------3~~~-----------------------| E:-------------------------------------------------------------------| there are variations so just ad lib. e:---0-----0---------------------------------------------------------| B:-----0-----0-------------------------------------------------------| G:-------------------------------------------------------------------| D:--2-----4------5~~--5h7p5--4h5p4--2h4p2----------------------------| A:------------------------------------------3~~~---------------------| E:-------------------------------------------------------------------| everywhere, everywhere... Mithril46
I have to point out that particularly after the "regular" first solo in WLL in TSRTS, Page heads into a lotof uncharted territory after Plant's my "baby's reached the age of 24", etc.,. In fact in this section Page isabsolutely using the delay, but only for slap back short echo. Also these are not just blues licks, but rockabilly licks from Cliff Gallup, Gene Vincent, Scotty More (Elvis guitarist), and others. That final strangerun, Page is kind of descending three frets on each lick, you have to think out of the box. As far as the D&C solos after the bow solo, at least on TSRTS, much of the time when you hear all the dissonance,Page is often crashing the E and Bb notes together in different ways, although this is a oversimplification. Some of the other stuff , although it sounds unique( the fast , almost mandolin picking style) , the stuff thatreally is very chaotic, if you check out some "better" versions of D&C, Page makes this stuff sound muchmore connected to the rest of the band, as opposed to playing AGAINST the band. JP_Zoso
Thank you everybody for your very kind answers.Actually, I have been a little bit misunderstood, probably due to my "frenglish", but I am looking for the final outtro before the Gong.Is there anybody who has any transcriptions of the four last guitars licks ?Thanks in advance. Jeesh999
Are you talking about where he kicks in the wah pedal? If so I'm hearing this: First lick is a classic 12th fret pentatonic box blues "roll". Rock your wah pedal while you bend the 14th fret A on the 3rd string up to a B, and roll across the B and E strings at the 12th fret. The first bend and two roll notes should be played with a triplet feel (even though they're straight 1/8th notes). Do this roll three times, then end on the 2nd string 15th and bend it up to an E. Second lick: slide/grace note up to 10th fret on 3rd string and do another roll (no bends) across the 2nd and 1st strings at the 9th fret but end on the 1st string 11th fret and bend that up to an F. Then it's back down the same shape: 1st string 11th and 9th frets, 2nd string 9, 3rd string 10, but end on 3rd string 8th fret. Third lick, starts out similar to second. Slide/grace note up to 3rd string 7th fret and roll across 2nd and 1st at the 6th fret, then 9-6-9-6 frets on the 2nd string, 3rd string 8th back to 2nd string 6th, then 3rd string 6th with a slight bend and pulloff to open (I think the open G is just some classic Page semi-sloppiness/genius), then 3rd string 5th with a slight bend and back to natural, then 3rd string 3rd fret 4th string 5th fret 3rd string 3rd fret. Fourth lick I'm really not sure to be honest. It's hard to make out distinct notes, but it definitely sounds like he's doing something with a G diminished arpeggio. The closest I reckon is some sort of triplet arpeggio starting from the low G on the 6th. So G-Bb-C# on the 6th and 5th strings, C#-E-G on the 5th and 4th strings, then kind of single notes with the wah on each one: G-Bb-C#-E-G-Bb-C# from the 4th string 5th fret up to 1st string 9th, however you want to finger it. Then big E power chords at 7th fret with open 6th string, then slide up to 12 and do hammers and pulls on the 4th and 3rd strings until the gong hits. End on an E7#9 at the 7th fret (E-G#-D-G) with open E. Edited May 23, 2021 by Jeesh999 Added some details.
