redrum Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 AKA Bobby Darin. Just picked up a couple of cd's by him as I love his hits: Beyond The Sea, Mack The Knife, Dream Lover etc. He really was an amazing guy and passed away at age 37. He was a member of 'Mensa' and was also a great movie actor. He received an Oscar nomination from the film 'Captain Newman, MD' and he received a Golden Globe for his part in 'Pressure Point.' with Sidney Poitier. He was also a political activist. He's the kind of guy you really do miss if you were born in that era like I was. “Simple Song Of Freedom”(B. Darin, 1969) Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you’ve never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don’t want a war Hey there, mister black man can you hear me? I don’t want your diamonds or your game I just want to be someone known to you as me And I will bet my life you want the same So come and sing a simple song of freedom… [chorus] Seven hundred million are ya list’nin’? Most of what you read is made of lies But speaking one to one, ain’t it everybody’s sun To wake to in the mornin’ when we rise? So come and sing a simple song of freedom… [chorus] Brother Solzhenitsyn are you busy? If not, won’t you drop this friend a line? Tell me if the man who is plowin’ up your land has got the war machine upon his mind Come and sing a simple song of freedom… [chorus] Now, no doubt some folks enjoy doin’ battle Like presidents, and ministers and kings So, let’s all build them shelves Where they can fight among themselves Leave the people be who like to sing Come and sing a simple song of freedom… [chorus]. . . . . .We, the people here, don’t want a war.
