Page comes across as bit of a petulant nimby, as long as  Tower House does not sustain any major damage through fat boy's alteration work on his own property Jimbo ought to stop whinging. If I owned TH as long as it wasn't a listed building, didn't have any kind of preservation order on it I would gut it and completely change it's interior. That current interior is way to gaudy for my tastes, I'm afraid it'd have to go.

Only just spotted your retort here ...presumably you’ve recovered since ?

Yes it is, I apologise for it. I'd like to take it back, what was I thinking. I ought not to post when  "other things" are stressing me out.

No worries, we all have those days. One time I was having a bad day when my boss called me into his office to give me some advice. He wanted me to deal with a particular person in a less than honest manner just to make them happy. As I was already pissed off I thought stating to my boss, "so, you want me to lie to them" was a good idea. You can only imagine how that turned out. Talk about losing ones shit, it was almost comical were it not for the fact my job lay in the balance. I calmed him down and apologized and all was good.

He retired shortly after

I'd hate to be put in an uncomfortable situation like that. Closest I got was after I'd made a f*** up at work, my foreman wasn't to happy (rightly so) and  started calling me all sorts for it, shouting his head off, waving his arms around, he wasn't losing it but he was trying to make point. My shop steward saw what was going on and came over to see if I was okay I told him I was and not to worry about it. He then had a go at the foreman, (who was only doing his job)  a head to head kind of thing with the foreman giving the shop steward the lightest of shoves. So the ss now wants the foreman in the office, when we get there I'm asked my version of the events I said I had not seen the shove, I had but I wasn't going to let the foreman get reprimanded for something that was my fault in the first place, he was a decent guy but the shop steward was a complete a-hole. Like your guy who retired the a-hole took redundancy money a few months down the line.

I once punched a gaffer into a trench. Well, he called me a 'cunt' and when I said I wasn't a cunt, he tried to throw me into the trench and when that failed he threw a punch that missed,
so, y'know, what option did I have, really? Frightfully unseemly for an excavation in the grounds of the vicarage at Wath Upon Dearne but, well, this was 1980, so I was a bit livelier then!
There's probably a queue to knock Robbie Williams into a trench...

So the headlines were wrong. Jimmy actually got the upper hand against that weasel Robbie whatever his name is.

You CAN have a pool Robbie, if you dig it by hand! Former Take That singer’s epic basement battle with Led Zeppelin neighbour Jimmy Page ends… if workers use shovels at extra cost of £1million

  • Robbie Williams won a marathon planning fight against Jimmy Page last week
  • Williams, 44, wants to build a basement and underground swimming pool
  • Neighbour Page was concerned that building work could damage his home
  • Williams given the go-ahead but the basement may have to be dug by hand

When it was announced that Robbie Williams had won his marathon planning fight against veteran rocker Jimmy Page last week, most assumed he would be breaking open the champagne.

The Take That singer had, after all, survived an acrimonious five-year battle with his neighbour Page for the right to build a basement and an underground swimming pool at his Kensington property.

But The Mail on Sunday has established it is actually the Led Zeppelin legend who is celebrating.

Because the small print in the council’s decision means Williams and his builders may be banned from using diggers and must use spades and shovels if they want to go ahead – adding six months, a staggering 7,500 man hours and an additional £1 million to the cost.

It is even possible the project – which could end up as the most expensive domestic swimming pool built in Britain – will be shelved.

The dispute between the musicians began when Williams, 44, bought a £17.5million home next door to Page, 74, in the Holland Park district of Kensington in West London and announced he planned extensive building works.

Page’s home, designed by William Burges in 1875, is viewed as an architectural masterpiece and the star had been concerned that heavy machinery and vibrations from building work could cause permanent damage.

Now papers from last week’s hearing show the judge agreed, insisting any work be carried out using ‘hand tools’.

Sources close to Page say that normal diggers can’t be used and that he wants ‘real time’ vibration monitoring so work can be stopped immediately if vibrations exceed a damaging level.

He will also attempt to secure a £6 million bond from Williams in case any damage is proven.

The two sides will meet in the New Year to agree a way forward. One source said: ‘Robbie’s team were ashen-faced at the verdict because this was not the result they wanted. This work is going to be a nightmare.

‘Any bit of damage, large or small, he will be liable for so he has to be careful. There will be no getting around the rule that Robbie’s builders won’t be using big diggers but spades instead.’

It is understood that Page has been devastated by the row and has been determined to ‘fight tooth and nail’ to preserve his home.

One friend told The Mail on Sunday: ‘For Jimmy, this has been way more important than a scrap between a pop star and a rock star. This is about saving a house.

‘Robbie in our view was endangering other people’s homes – in this case a private listed building. We can’t empower rich people to ruin other people’s homes.’ It is understood that Williams, who bought his house six years ago with wife Ayda Field, 39, has refused to meet Page throughout their battle.

Page says he has tried to invite the pop star into his mansion so that he can see what his work could potentially ruin, but Williams has repeatedly turned down the offer.

Those close to Williams say he may reconsider carrying out the work. He decided to move out of the house with Ms Field and their three children and rent a property in St John’s Wood, which has the underground pool that he wanted.

The Beckhams viewed the house following former owner Sir Michael Winner’s death in 2012 but decided against buying it after being warned getting permission for renovations would be difficult.

Why does Page even have to get involved in this? Does the U.K. not have a historical registry on the house? If so, then why does Page have to fight the governments battle? Then again, if Page has to pay for the legal battle then maybe it'll force him to open the vault on some live releases to protect his precious house.

Regardless of historical registry, the new National Trust leaves these matters to local councils to resolve. As we have seen local councils, generally, are woefully unqualified to do so, and as such the litigation ensues and these matters go to court.

I honestly always thought the issue was just between two egomaniacs having a slap-fight until I saw the pictures of the inside of the house. I think Page's reluctance to allow people inside the house worked against him, as the outside just looks like a dull pile of bricks. It truly is a work of art on the inside. If it's illegal to vandalize a painting in a museum then it should be illegal to potentially damage such an incredible home.

Yes, he did allow the media inside to increase public awareness of what is at risk. Additionally, he is giving some thought to bequeathing Tower House to the nation in his will. It truly is a national treasure and it's high time the other parties concerned recognize this fact.

The battle lines here sum up the sad state of Britain today.

A fat useless vulgarian called Robbie who earned way too much money

for crap, but who is a household name ,versus a genteel elderly ex fine arts student

and part time guitarist called Jimmy, who is increasingly not a household name .

Guess who wins in court ? In a previous time the value of the house as a national treasure

plus the cast iron planning regulations would have insured this didn't get past first base.

Today  Williams could probably turn up in court stark bollock naked and not earn a reprimand

The phrase gone to the dogs comes to mind!!

Well, it's all relative. When Jimmy owned Old Mill House in Windsor he was in a long-running feud with his neighbor, Dudley Burnside, an RAF pilot during World War II. Mr. Burnside felt slighted by Jimmy that his repeated requests to have trees which border their properties cut down were rebuffed. (The trees were causing damage to Mr. Burnside's property).  This went to court in October 1999. Mr. Burnside lost the case and had to pay nearly $40,000 in legal fees, leading to some harsh words from him in the press.

The judge handed down what seems to be a Solomonesque decision...equally split between the two sides.

Looks like Burnside and Page had something in common

Quote

On the night of March 5 he was sent to bomb Essen

Both in March nonetheless, Jimmy did a lot more damage though..

Talk about elitist nonsense. It sickens me the extent people feel entitled to whatever they want regardless of potential consequence. Is this really the only house Williams can own and renovate? Why would anyone buy a home next to an historical home, registered as such, and expect to do such major renovations? To me it seems these people are quite simply egomaniacal twats with too much money and zero shits of concern for anyone or anything else. Williams was / is 100% wrong in this matter. Regarding Page and the Old Mill House, if those trees were indeed causing damage than Page was in the wrong, however if the trees were simply along the other owners lot line and he was using damage as an excuse to have trees removed which may have been blocking a view corridor than screw that guy too. I would like to read the details on that case to find out who was in the wrong regardless of the ruling.

Hilarious - UK construction hasn't involved digging with shovels for decades! I've been an archaeologist for 18 years and have worked on many sites where construction's been going on - and not once have I seen a groundworker use a shovel, other than to put cement and pebbles into a mixer. I have, however, had many of them come over to our trenches and stand there gawping at us shovelling, like it's some antiquated practice from the Dark Ages (sorry, Early Medieval, arf). Robbie will probably have to hire specialists who know how shovels work...

The Vulture now claims that Robbie is "tormenting" Jimmy by playing Sabbeth, Floyd and Deep Purple really loud whenever Jimmy's outside.  Tormenting? I'll bet Jimmy loves it! :elvis2:

And they’re saying Williams is still acting like a complete jerk wearing blonde wigs and having a pillow tucked under his shirt prancing about his house near the window acting like he’s RP to try to provoke JP. How childish.
